The starting salary package for this position is £47,360 GBP / approx. $60,000 USD including all allowances.

About the role
MAG are seeking an experienced Security and Access Manager to support the establishment of MAG’s programme in PNG. Reporting to the Country Director and working together with MAG’s global/regional security team, you will be responsible for the effective implementation and management of MAG’s Safety, Security and Duty of Care framework across MAG’s programme in PNG. You will monitor and assess security conditions, establish and manage access procedures, and accordingly advise management. You will also be responsible for developing and delivering safety and security training and mentoring, and developing a local security and access team. This role will provide you with the opportunity to use your skills in stakeholder engagement by establishing and maintaining relationships with security networks and a range of local security stakeholders.
About you
MAG are looking for candidates with extensive security and critical management experience, who have a strong understanding of NGO security management principles. You should have experience living and working in high-risk environments, ideally within the region, and an understanding of the context in PNG / the Pacific Islands. Expertise in critical incident management is essential, and you would need to demonstrate skills in political, security, and conflict analysis, as well as the development of security risk assessments.
You should be a skilled communicator, proficient in Microsoft Office and field communication devices, and experienced in developing and delivering security training. An ability to problem solve, remain calm under pressure, coupled with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and negotiate in complex situations will be key for this role. You must be self-motivated, pragmatic, and flexible, with capacity to work with limited supervision, as well as being committed to MAG’s mission and values. Proficiency in English is essential, and knowledge of local PNG languages and culture would be advantageous. Knowledge of Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) and/or Weapons and Ammunition Management (WAM) operations although advantageous is not essential for this role.
About the Papua New Guinea programme
MAG’s programme in Papua New Guinea will seek to assist the national government and security forces to better secure and account for their stocks of firearms and SALW. MAG will conduct technical assessments to prioritise Physical Stockpile and Security Management (PSSM) needs and respond to the measures identified within the assessments. Our team will initially be based in Port Moresby, but the successful applicant will lead on access and travel management and be expected to travel extensively throughout the country, including to the Highlands region, developing networks, establishing procedures, and enabling operations.
