Duties and Responsibilities
This post is located in the United Nations Security and Safety Service (UNSSS), Division for Management (DM) of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV). The Intern reports to the Chief, UNSSS through the Deputy Chief. The position supports the work of the Security and Safety Service. The internship is for six (6) months with a desired starting date in April 2024. The position will be UNPAID and full-time, i.e. five days (40 hours per week) under the Supervision of the Assistant Chief of UNSSS. For information on the work of UNOV kindly visit www.unov.org Within assigned authority, the Intern will be responsible for the following duties: • Assist in preparing, drafting, editing and reviewing a broad range of documents; • Prepares quarterly newsletters, presentations and awareness raising materials such as flyers, brochures, videos etc. • Contribute to the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. background papers, policy reviews, reports, data inputs, briefing notes, communication outputs, etc.; • Assist the Office of the Chief with project management related functions; • Provide support, particularly in data gathering (Key Performance Indicators) and meeting reporting requirements. • Assist in the Pass Office with picture taking and other administrative tasks weekly • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation (OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION); • Be computer literate in standard software applications; • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. For this particular Internship interested candidates are expected to be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) in Communication, public information or related area.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of a second United Nations language and working knowledge of German is desirable.
