Org. Setting and Reporting
The Department of Safety and Security is responsible for providing leadership, operational support and oversight of the security management system, ensure the maximum security for staff and eligible dependents as well as enable the safest and most efficient conduct of the programmes and activities of the United Nations System. This position is located in the Security and Safety Section, Bangkok under the Department of Safety and Security. The incumbent reports to the Senior Security Inspector.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Security Inspector, and overall supervision of the Chief and Deputy Chief of Security and Safety Section, the incumbent is required to perform armed security functions and the following functions: • Organizes and manages the activities and operations of the Unit. • Inspects line-ups of officers to ensure that they are properly attired and equipped, as well as knowledgeable of the daily security requirements. • Assigns officers to areas and maintains contact with supervisory personnel and officers. • Directly supervises Unit personnel. • Instructs and directs all staff under command in their duties and responsibilities. • Ensures that all posts are properly and effectively manned (including ensuring that first-line supervisors make frequent patrols to all static and mobile posts to observe work performance and to further brief officers on duty, as well as carrying out patrols to monitor performance of officer under command and to inspect uniforms, equipment and general appearance of subordinates). • Assures the proper maintenance of all relevant equipment and records. • Prepares and reviews incident reports of the Unit; guarantees that all incidents and complaints reported are effectively addressed. • Reviews all meeting and special event schedules to determine staffing requirements. • Recommends inter-unit redeployments to resolve temporary personnel shortages. • Assumes command of emergency or heightened security situations until properly relieved. • May be assigned to other units of the section. • Replaces Security Inspector as required. • Performs all other related duties as required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required. A first-level university degree may be accepted in lieu of two years of required experience.
Job – Specific Qualification
Additional security or military training is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years (or five years if graduated with a first-level university degree) of progressively responsible experience in all areas of the security operation within the UN Security Service, including investigation, physical security, personal protection, strategic and operational planning, fire prevention and suppression, emergency medical and hazardous material response, video imaging badge systems and methods of instruction or related area is required. Experience in security risk management and security operations in the United Nations Security Management System is desirable. A minimum of seven years of experience in direct security personnel supervision in the United Nations Security Management System is desirable. Experience in staff regulations and rules, shift system and time management system in the security operations in the United Nations Security Management System or international organizations similar to UN Common System is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

The incumbent is also required to undergo firearms drills and maintain UN qualification standards. The incumbent may be required to work shifts/ weekends/overnights/ holidays. Must have passed the United Nations Security Officer Test (SOT).
