Under the overall guidance of the UNDSS Security Advisor (SA) the key functions of the incumbent are:
- Receives, transmits or relays security and safety messages and information on behalf of the Designated Official/Senior Security Personnel (as applicable) via all identified means of communication to personnel.
- Notifies the respective UNSMS organization security focal points when their personnel are involved in a security or safety incident.
- Closely monitor all open media sources in order to capture and validate security-related incidents which could affect UNSMS directly or indirectly.
- Ensure that the collected information is properly validated and assessed credibility-wise.
- Maintains records and logs of actions and communications undertaken to support operations and security or safety incidents or any other critical communications.
- Maintains maps/overlays/status boards within the SOC to ensure data remains current.
- Maintains the contact details of the response emergency services and support structures of host government, local authorities and contracted private security companies; direct personnel to the nearest one during security or safety incidents.
- Conduct daily monitoring of local media (print and electronic, including social media) for security incidents / reports/ information as projected on United Nations, UN in Bangladesh as well as incidents / developments in the country.
- Record security incidents on database taking into consideration the requirements of gender sensitivity and confidentiality.
- Operate all communications tools Cell Phone, Smart phone, and web-based application.
- Operate Security communication system very high frequency (VHF) High Frequency (HF) equipment.
- Conduct periodic radio checks and prepare report of compliance.
- Send emergency alerts through all available communication means when required as instructed.
- Door Key Management/Custodian of all UN Floor Keys in IDB Bhaban.
- Coordination security arrangements with Law Enforcement Agencies during Field Missions.
- Enable staff head Count of All AFPs during an Emergency in collaboration with the respective Agency Wardens and prompt reporting to supervisor.
- Maintain sensitivity to Gender issues including confidentiality on any incident affecting women.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by Security Advisor (SA).

- A minimum of a Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) is required.
- Relevant training and experience can be considered as viable alternative to a degree.
- Work experience related to operational communications and direct interaction with a broad range of clients.
- Prior working experience within the UN system, an international NGO, or another international organization is desirable.
- Computer skills and information management/processing experience.
- Good understanding of computer-based tools such as MS Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Power Point etc) and other computer, web/internet based and smartphone applications.
- Experience with radio, satellite and web-based communications is an asset.
- Ability to work on a rotational shift basis that includes nights, holidays, and weekends.
Language Requirements:
- Excellent command (written and spoken) of the working UN language(s) used for official communications in the operational area is essential;
- Knowledge of local language(s) used in operational area is essential;
- Working knowledge of English is desirable.
