Context:
The Office of Staff Security (OSS) is responsible for providing leadership on safety/security policy management and Mission operational support to enable the safest and most effective implementation and delivery of IOM programs and activities. Under the overall supervision of the Senior Field Security Officer and under the direct supervision of the Field Security Officer and close coordination with the Senior Security Assistant in Baidoa will be responsible for actively assisting the IOM Somalia security unit in all aspects of staff safety and security management in Baidoa . The Security Support Assistant will be expected to support the implementation of appropriate safety and security management procedures that will effectively address issues that could and have impact on all safety, security and the protection of IOM personnel and assets, including programme implementation in the Southwest State.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
1.
Support all IOM security related activities in Baidoa in coordination with the Senior Security Assistant in Baidoa and FSOs in Mogadishu, as per the OSS Somalia structure.
2.
Support drafting and preparing all mission’s required documents including mission plan and CONOPS, escort, and other relevant requirements and submit to IOM Senior Senior Security /FSOs for review and further processing.
3.
Support the FSOs in Mogadishu by providing regular updates, information and trends in the field for all matters related to safety and security.
4.
Assist with all OSS administrative matters including asset management, custodian records, issuing and tracking of security assets and support field missions with all the necessary equipment available within OSS custody.
5.
Support the FSOs to ensure that security protocols and mandatory security requirements in Baidoa are in place and updated regularly (staff list, Ds, warden system, mission tracking ,inventory list .etc.)
6.
In the absence of the Senior Security Assistant, assist in providing regular briefings to all the new arrivals, visitors, mission participants and provide them with the recent advisories and security updates.

7.
Maintain good relationship with UNDSS, host government authorities and UNAFPs security focal points.
8.
Support the SSA/FSOs to investigate security breaches and report security incidents within the area of responsibility, work closely with the Government Police in efforts to keep IOM staff, its assets and interests protected while ensuring strict confidentiality.
9.
Perform any additional duties as requested by the IOM FSOs.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
•
University degree in social science, administration, law enforcement or accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience, or
•
High School diploma with four years of relevant experience.
Experience
•
Experience working with an international organization or the United Nations.
•
Knowledge of UN / INGOs security management
•
Experience in using security and communication equipment including VHF/HF/TETRA radios.
•
Good knowledge of the security, political and social situation of Somalia.
Skills
• Computer literacy, good knowledge of commonly used applications such as MS Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment with others with diverse backgrounds.
• Ability and willingness to respond to emergencies after working hours, weekends and official holidays.
Languages
For all applicants, fluency in English is required (oral and written).
Working knowledge of French or any other UN Official language is advantageous.
