We are currently in search of a Senior Accountant to join our Finance team! The Senior Accountant will work closely with the CFO, Controller, Vice President of Financial Reporting and Budgeting and others within the Finance department to ensure the accurate and timely completion of all general accounting and reporting functions. This position will be responsible for performing complex accounting reconciliations and analyzing complex data, including the review and analysis of gift in kind donation valuations. This position works with the Finance team and utilizes technical proficiency necessary in identifying weaknesses or opportunities for improvement in the accounting structure and/or control systems as necessary and proposes solutions as needed. Additionally, this position contributes to the oversight of the Gift Processing department including the design and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure timely and accurate recording of donor gifts. This position will contribute to the oversight of staff responsible for recording and maintaining transactions and enhancing the control environment to accurately record and protect donor data. 

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required

Experience

• 5+ years’ experience including 2 years’ public accounting experience in the area of attestation. 
• Experience performing audits for a nonprofit organization through public accounting and/or direct accounting experience with a nonprofit organization preferred.
• Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data required.
• Advanced GAAP skills required.
• Advanced MS Excel skills, accounting systems, experience with SAGE helpful.
• Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage tasks independently while meeting tight deadlines required.
• Strong understanding and practical application of internal controls required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
• Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of this job may be considered.

Licenses and Certifications

• CPA or CPA candidate preferred

Essential Functions:

• Assists in the preparation of monthly and yearly accrual based financial statements, applying applicable GAAP standards as required.
• Prepares and posts journal entries in the accounting system in accordance with accounting standards, including related proper documentation.
• Performs complex account reconciliations and analyze complex data, identifying weaknesses or opportunities for improvement in accounting structure or controls systems as necessary, and proposing solutions as needed.
• Provides advice and technical assistance with cost analysis, fiscal allocation, variance analysis, budget forecasting and other projects as necessary.
• Assists in the preparation of timely month end and year end closes.
• Reviews journal entries and other work product prepared by staff.
• Analyzes complex data and prepare reports as needed for management.
• Assists in the preparation of work papers for annual financial audits, tax filings and other regulatory reports.
• Works with the CFO and management on projects and analysis as needed.
• Assists in the preparation of departmental budgets, reporting, and variance analysis.
• Performs work accurately and within required timelines needed for the position.
• Prepares analysis and workpapers for internal and external audits.
• Provides technical input and analysis as necessary for departmental functions including accounts payable and gift-in-kind revenue valuation.
• Assists in the preparation and review of gift-in-kind transactions including analyzing complex data and performing unit of measure calculations and conversions accurately and methodically, identifying weaknesses or opportunities for improvement as necessary.
• Researches market data for donated product using the internet, catalogues, donor value guidance and other relevant sources to compute, analyze and evaluate the reasonableness of gift-in-kind valuation computations.
• Assists Finance in supporting the Gift Processing department including monitoring and maintaining departmental policies and procedures, including the system software used by Gift Processing staff for both flaws and potential enhancements, as well as assisting in the implementation of any new software programs while maintaining integrity of the database and imaging system.
• Assists in the oversight of staff responsible for recording and maintaining transactions and enhancing the control environment to protect the integrity of donor data.
