Senior Accountant General Ledger, Finance

Position description

The Senior Accountant General Ledger will report to the Director, Accounting. The Senior Accountant’s responsibilities include performing account reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger, assisting with audit preparations, and performing other accounting duties as assigned.

This position is based in Washington, DC (hybrid schedule).

Essential Functions

      • Ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, and entering transactions
      • Manage the accounts payable function, including posting, verifying, and reconciling transactions to the general ledger
      • Perform all month-end and year-end account reconciliations, and prepare working papers for auditors’ review
      • Enter, revise, sort, calculate, and create tables for analysis, account reconciliations, year-end working papers, etc.
      • Prepare and process annual reports, including Form 990, Form 941, and Form 1099 filings
      • Serve as a backfill for the weekly processing of accounts payable and expense reports
      • Oversee the travel expense system, ensuring full compliance with company policies
      • Utilize advanced Excel skills to enter, sort, calculate, and create tables for analysis, reconciliations, and working papers
      • Contribute to the development of new or amended accounting systems, programs, and procedures
      • Coordinate complex accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the accounting and finance team or with other departments
      • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Selection Criteria

      • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
      • 5 or more years of progressive accounting experience
      • Proficiency with Excel
      • Understanding and knowledge of automated systems
      • Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize in a deadline driven environment
      • Must be an outstanding communicator, with established skills in accuracy, organization, and experience working in a high-volume environment
