Location: Flexible (hybrid role working between home and office) 
Contract: Permanent
Hours per week: 35
Salary: £47,373 (plus £3,344 Inner London Weighting, if applicable) per annum 

The British Red Cross has an exciting opportunity in our International directorate. Can you help drive the strategic direction of our climate and risk reduction programming? Can you use your advisory expertise to offer expert guidance and support to our teams to develop and deliver climate resilience and risk reduction programmes? 


A day in the life of our Senior Adviser Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Resilience 
In this challenging role you’ll work collaboratively across the British Red Cross International Directorate, helping spearhead a growing portfolio of climate resilience programmes and partnerships. You’ll lead on the development of new strategic approaches, represent BRC in technical networks internally and externally. You’ll help us to increase our support to communities facing the climate crisis. 

This role will matrix manage relevant technical advisers and technical staff based overseas. You’ll help ensure they meet and exceed their objectives and offer the highest quality advice to their teams. You’ll bolster existing practices and work on improvements. Your guidance will ensure technical quality is championed and good practice is identified and shared effectively.
Other areas of work will include:
  • Collaborating with colleagues from business development / strategic funding to mobilize and manage resources.
  • Policy and advocacy – ensuring strong linkage between BRC’s policy and programming offers on climate adaption and risk reduction.
  • Overseeing the collection and analysis of evidence to demonstrate the effectiveness and impact of the directorate’s work.
This role might be for you if you…
  • Have advanced working knowledge of Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience within the international humanitarian system or international development context.
  • Have experience of stakeholder coordination and partnership working across multiple teams (many of which will be remote and / or international). You are confident when supporting others, seeking solutions to problems, and managing multiple tasks.
  • Have advanced ability to analyse both quantitative and qualitative data. Can interpret information to communicate to and persuade decision makers / different audiences, both written and verbal.
  • Have extensive experience of providing technical advice, capacity development and programmatic support.
  • Have experience of working with international partners, programmes or in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Understand the international development context and international climate work.
