About the role

  • Due to the nature of this role, it is preferred to be based in the ACT, QLD, or WA.
  • Full time (part time options considered)
  • Fixed term to June 2027 (with potential for renewal)
  • $95,384 – $100,220 plus statutory superannuation and 17.5% annual leave loading

The Senior Advisor, Government Relations will work closely with the Policy Team and Our Watch Advisors embedded in State and Territory government offices, as well as work collaboratively with other non-government stakeholders.

You will contribute to Our Watch’s engagement with Commonwealth, State and Territory parliamentarians and their staff, and with government agencies and departments, developing specialised knowledge of one or more jurisdictions and contribute to Our Watch’s support and advice to governments to progress structural, legislative and policy reform to prevent violence against women.

Our Watch is committed to operating in a multipartisan way in the delivery of our strategic plan. Due to this and the potential risk of perceived conflict of interest to arise, it is a requirement of this role that the incumbent is not intimately associated and involved in political party activities and/or decision making.

About you

You will have experience in a government, government relations, political, advisory, or public policy role, an understanding of the operation and processes of government and parliaments at a commonwealth and/or state and territory level and experience engaging with a diverse range of relevant stakeholders particularly parliamentarians, their staff and/or government agencies and departments, advisors, and other political and public policy stakeholders. You will have well developed project planning and management skills and strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience writing briefs and reports. You will be able to work independently, as well as engaging respectfully with colleagues and external stakeholders.
