Interviews to take place week commencing 19th August 2024About the serviceNYAS provides mental health advocacy to children, young people and vulnerable adults within mental health settings throughout the UK.Our service provides independent advocacy to people within mental health hospitals and community-based settings. We support individuals to ensure their voice is heard regarding their care and treatment and that they are aware of their rights.The primary users of our services are vulnerable adults however some settings do include working with children and young people.The roleWe are looking for a Senior Advocate who will have day to day responsibility for the running and promotion of the advocacy service within several allocated settings across the UK.You will manage a pool of advocates which involves recruitment, supporting them through induction and by conducting supervision, regional meetings and best practice meetings, ensuring the provisions of the service we offer to vulnerable adults and young people is to a high standard.You will be responsible in managing the allocated weekly hours of each service, allocating these to the most appropriate advocate to meet the needs of the service users, whilst also attending an inpatient setting yourself where you will provide independent and confidential generic mental health advocacy to children, young people and vulnerable adults to empower them to express their wishes and feelings in respect of their care and treatment within a hospital setting to ensure their voices are heard.You will help drive the performance of the service by monitoring the hours, activity and budgets, and support advocates to produce quarterly reports using statistical and qualitative data for monitoring meetings to evidence service target achievements. This will also enable you to identify recurring themes and concerns which can be escalated.This role also provides the opportunity to work in co-operation with other NYAS services and departments and well as acting the link between NYAS and the settings.For more information, please view the attached job description below.In your application, you will need to evidence, using specific examples, how your skills and experience meet the criteria laid out in the person specification, within the job description attached.   • Significant experience in working with children and young people in a social care setting
  • Experience and understanding of child protection/vulnerable adult safeguarding procedures
  • An understanding of the importance of listening to children and young people without bias or prejudice
  • An ability to communicate effectively and to a high standard both orally and in writing to a wide range of people.
