Senior Alaska Program Manager-TRCP Center for Public Lands

Status: Full time/ Reports to: Deputy Director, Forest Policy and NW Conservation / Location: Remote in Alaska/ Salary $83-87K DOE  

Founded in 2002, the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership (TRCP) is a national 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that works with 60+ partner groups, its Corporate Council and its 140,000 members and supporters to guarantee all Americans quality places to hunt and fish. We unite and amplify our partners’ voices by strengthening policy and funding around conservation, habitat, and access.    

TRCP seeks a thoughtful and strategic individual to serve as its Alaska Senior Program Manager who will be responsible for overseeing and implementing the organization’s conservation and access priorities in Alaska. This individual will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with hunting and fishing leaders, elected decision makers, agency staff, and rural and Alaska Native community leaders. The Alaska Senior Program Manager will additionally fundraise and oversee project consultants, while helping TRCP navigate often-complex natural resource management issues in Alaska for the benefit of fish and wildlife and hunters and anglers. Conservation priorities in Alaska include the Tongass National Forest plan revision and the Hunters & Anglers for the Brooks Range campaign.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:    

• Work closely with the Deputy Director of Forest Policy and NW Conservation, VP of Western Conservation, and the Chief Conservation Officer to maintain and build TRCP’s Alaska program into the future.
• Manage and implement TRCP’s existing conservation campaigns, including the Tongass National Forest plan revision and Hunters & Anglers for the Brooks Range.
• Work cooperatively with Alaska hunting and angling organizations, business leaders, and hunt-fish thought leaders to advance policies that conserve our fish and wildlife resources and outdoor heritage.
• Build and maintain working relationships with state and federal agencies, the Alaska congressional delegation, Alaska Native tribes and corporations, conservation groups, and community leaders to successfully navigate conservation outcomes.
• Work with partners to develop and submit comment letters and to testify on important agency actions.
• Work with the TRCP’s communications staff and consultants to generate strategically appropriate press coverage and to communicate with our members and the public electronically.
• When possible, serve on relevant federal, state, or local advisory groups/ councils/boards.
• Work with TRCP’s development team to ensure financial support for TRCP’s Alaska Program, including funder relations, tracking of grant deliverables, and the development of grant reports.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:    

• A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 5+ years of professional experience in natural resource issues or policy.
• Established relationships within Alaska and understanding of how to effectively influence conservation policy.
• Appreciation for conservation and the landscapes and values of Alaska.
• Ability to build & maintain strong working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders and partners, including subsistence harvesters, resident hunters and anglers, and non-resident sportsmen and sportswomen.
• Detailed knowledge of state and federal lands and the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act.
• The ability to understand nuance and effectively handle complex situations.
• Passion for fish and wildlife and an interest in hunting and/or fishing.
• Strong communications and writing skills.
• Ability to work independently and coordinate multiple priorities within a diverse project and policy portfolio.
• Willingness and ability to travel across the state/valid driver’s license.
• Strong initiative, enthusiasm, and willingness to pitch in whenever needed.
