The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) invests in clean energy markets in low- and middle-income countries to generate energy access, improve lives and economic opportunities, build sustainable markets, and combat climate change. REEEP is looking for a Senior Analyst to add to its team at the Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa. The role will be based at REEEP’s office in Vienna, Austria.
Duties and Responsibilities
Lead and contribute to the provision of technical assistance to SMEs according to your skills and expertise, ranging from technical assistance needs assessment to financial modelling, business development, customer service and consumer protection, credit management, operations, ESG and other technical matters as relevant in the context of off-grid energy companies in early stage markets.
Research, analyse and present information gathered from diverse sources to support the delivery of technical assistance and market scoping studies for new target countries.
Contribute to the development, implementation and monitoring of BGFA (and/or other programmes), including contributing to, or leading, activities defined by the Line Manager (such as due diligence, selected aspects of contract negotiations, technical assistance to SMEs, etc.)
Document lessons learnt; propose and co-develop improvements to programme implementation and design.
Perform management and programmatic and administrative assignments in collaboration with the REEEP team and national and international partners, including work planning and report drafting, planning and facilitation of technical activities, preparation of ToRs for external experts, and financial budgeting.
Prepare and revise various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, translations, etc.
Participate in field missions, including preparation, coordination with in-country stakeholders and mission documentation.
Contribute to the design, development and implementation of new programmes.
Contribute to the development and articulation of high-level strategy and day-to-day best practices at the organisation.
Support maintaining the relationship with the donors as necessary.
About the Profile
Essential Criteria
University/Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. economics, development studies, business administration, engineering, renewable energy, finance); or a strong record of work experience in pertinent fields
Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience: exposure to development cooperation and/or policy development, and/or technical/economic/business analysis in either international development or energy/infrastructure development
Knowledge of relevant technologies (mini-grids, SHS, clean cooking, productive use appliances) and business models used to deliver energy access
Demonstrated motivation to focus and learn about a wide range of technical aspects related to the field and ability to engage in a multi-disciplinary manner
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Demonstrated interest in sustainable development, including relevant work or voluntary experience in a developing country
Strong analytical and organisational skills; ability to think creatively and strategically and work proactively to assist in planning and problem solving
Experience in drafting materials such as studies, reports, talking points and substantive documents for meetings and events
Ability to work independently but as an integral member of larger teams; ability to work efficiently under pressure and prioritise; reliable and committed
Team player and ability to work as part of a diverse team
Willingness and ability to travel
Desirable Criteria
Work experience in sub-Saharan Africa
Experience in renewable energy, off-grid energy access or infrastructure planning/financing in the context of development cooperation
Good understanding of the energy sector including institutional, policy, legal and regulatory aspects
Experience of working with companies, associations, governmental bodies or regulatory entities in the field of clean energy (especially those operating in sub-Saharan Africa)
