About this opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Clinician to provide assertive and intensive interventions across the Northwest and Southwest Metropolitan area, based on a Care and Recovery Coordination outreach service delivery model!

Duties include but are not limited to…

  • Support the Outreach Coordinator to implement change and promote a culture of best practice.
  • Hold caseload of Intensive Support Program clients, providing assertive brief intervention and case management type interventions
  • Identify individuals at risk of overdose and conduct individual overdose risk assessments.
  • Complete comprehensive AOD assessments.
  • Provide advanced harm reduction interventions.
  • Liaise with client treatment providers, inclusive of biomedical and psychological professionals and welfare agencies to collate client information and facilitate a coordinated and individualised harm reduction response.
  • Provide practical assistance, such as transport to key appointments and facilitating access to relevant services.
  • Utilise opportunistic therapeutic interventions such as motivational interviewing, CBT, and other treatment modalities.
  • Provide training and other capacity building initiatives to create a community response to prevent the occurrence of overdose.
  • Providing clinical leadership and supervision to less experienced clinicians.
  • Adhere to and keep informed of relevant legislative compliance requirements, and reporting any perceived breaches, risks, hazards, incidents where relevant.

A week in the role:

If you were here last week, you would have:

  • Provided harm minimisation interventions to clients with a history of, or risk of, overdose.
  • Transported clients to Residential Withdrawal or Rehabilitation admissions.
  • Visited case management clients at the office, in their home or other identified locations.
  • Attended case co-ordination meetings to support client treatment and advocacy.
  • Supported other staff with clinical risk management.

Key Selection Criteria:

We are looking for an experienced and passionate Clinician to keep people engaged in treatment and reduce harms associated with AOD related overdose via case management with harm minimisation lens in an outreach format.

To be successful in this role, you must meet the following:

  • Relevant health and or welfare Tertiary/Degree qualification e.g., in Social Work, Psychology, Nursing or Allied Health Sciences with experience and/or an Associate Diploma with substantial experience.
  • Certificate IV or above in AOD or completion of the AOD Skill Set for Health Professionals (or commitment to obtain one of these within 12 months of employment). Staff will be fully supported in obtaining the skillset. * (Refer Appendix A).
  • Experience within AOD and/or Case Management service sectors.
  • Experience providing outreach-based services.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders.
  • Advanced harm reduction intervention knowledge and skills.
  • Experience working with complex clients (particularly AOD, dual diagnosis clients and those with other significant comorbidities).
  • Proven skills and experience providing assessments, client informed individual treatment plans, case management interventions and thorough discharge planning.
  • Experience with best practice therapeutic approaches such as: Motivational Enhancement Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Mindfulness, as well as utilising Family Inclusive Practice etc.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse range of client cohorts (such as Aboriginal, CALD, LGBTIQ and Forensic clients) and their families experiencing problematic alcohol and other drugs use in a respectful and compassionate manner.
  • Highly developed communication, advocacy, and conflict resolution skills.

*Appendix A (AOD Competencies)

OHV requires staff in clinical positions to have the following competencies (or their equivalent). Where people do not already have these competencies, OHV will invest in the staff’s professional development by providing them through our registered training organisation (RTO).
The competencies required in the first 12 months of employment are:

  • CHCAOD001 – Work in an alcohol and other drugs context
  • CHCAOD004 – Assess needs of clients with alcohol and other drugs issues
  • CHCAOD006 – Provide interventions for people with alcohol and other drugs issues
  • CHCAOD009 – Develop and review individual alcohol and other drugs treatment plans
