Details:

Victim Support ACT is seeking a senior assessor with professional experience interpreting legislation to support decision making, to work as part of the ACT Victims of Crime Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS).

The FAS Senior Assessor will assess and determine applications for victims of crime under the Victims of Crime (Financial Assistance) Act 2016, carrying an individual caseload of complex applications. The FAS Senior Assessor will also exercise discretion in decision making, framed by the relevant legislative frameworks, operating in a fast-paced environment. This role will also involve triaging applications with immediate needs elements, usually relating to applicants who have experience family and/or sexual violence.

Eligibility/Other requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification in law or allied health is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with victims of crime, including people affected by domestic, family and sexual violence is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with justice and community stakeholders is highly desirable.

Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) – Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.

Notes:

This is a temporary position available for a period of up to 12 months, with the possibility of extension and/or permanency. An order of merit or merit pool will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill future similar vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.
