Position Summary
The Senior Associate Dean Strategy and Innovation is a senior management position responsible for leading various key business functions at Olin Business School including strategy; product portfolio innovation, development, implementation and administration; marketing, communications and business development; and CRM. In addition, the person in this position will coordinate Olin’s activities and relationships across the University and with external partners. This role is essential to the implementation of the school’s vision and strategic plan and direct impact on revenue generation and reputation.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Serve on Senior Leadership Team
- Collaborate with senior leadership team members in the day-to-day administration of the school.
- Support strategic initiatives as directed by the Dean.
- Represent Olin in university-wide initiatives and bi-lateral or multi-lateral school collaborations.
- Support the bi-annual National Council meetings, collaborating with the Dean and senior leadership members on messaging, agenda and presentations.
- Foster a positive connection between Olin and University Advancement by integrating activities and identifying connection opportunities.
Lead School-Wide Strategic Planning and Implementation
- Facilitate the completion of Olin’s strategic planning process to drive to Olin’s vision, in a collaborative and inclusive manner.
- Act as a resource across the school to increase broad cohesion for strategic plans.
- Oversee the communication of school-wide plan, including strategic objectives, initiatives, roles, metrics and timelines.
- Partner with institutional leadership, special committees, and consultants to support execution of key initiatives.
Oversee Marketing, Communications, and Business Development
- Oversee development and execution of integrated strategic branding, marketing and communication strategies for the school.
- Supervise development of annual strategic marketing plan and budget for Olin overall and for each of Olin’s degree and non-degree programs, in partnership with program offices; and ensure high quality execution of those plans – on strategy, on time and on budget.
- Support the relationship with the university’s Public Affairs Office to ensure appropriate PR plans and tactics.
- Support plans that include all Olin constituents, faculty/staff, alumni, students, prospective students, business partners and influencers.
- Work with internal and external partners to elevate Olin’s degree and non-degree offerings with the business community. Facilitate connection between Olin leaders and business leaders – in St. Louis and beyond.
Oversee Customer Relationship Management Strategy and Platform
- Collaborate with the Assistant Dean and Director to ensure the CRM strategy and platform drive data-driven decision making to evaluate success of the school, programs and initiatives.
- Support a unified vision of IT ecosystem, inclusive of CRM platform and third party apps and integrations.
University Coordination and Collaborations
- Build partnerships across WashU between leaders of other school, the central administration and Olin.
- Point for strategy and execution of cross-school initiatives, especially those emanating from the Olin strategy plan and the University Strategic Plan, Here & Next.
Administrative/Fiscal Management of Key Operations
- Support the Assistant Dean, Marketing & Communications in the day-to-day administration and set performance metrics for efficiency and effectiveness in each area.
- Oversee the development of annual strategic initiatives and budgets in support of the School’s overall vision and strategic plan.
Representation
- Serve on Olin’s Dean’s Cabinet
- Serve on Olin’s Recruitment and Rankings Committee
- Serve on Olin’s Senior Leadership Plus team
- Serve on several University-wide committees related to strategy, IT (University Management Team, IT committees)
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA or Masters in Public Affairs, Communications, or Journalism.
- Facilitated organization-wide strategic processes and plans.
- Track record driving innovation, creativity and change.
- Ability to develop a rigorous strategic marketing plan; gain the buy-in, confidence and credibility of key audiences; and execute it successfully.
- Developed and launched innovative product portfolios.
- Ability developing high-level PowerPoint presentations for VIP audiences.
- Experience successfully collaborating and coordinating with other non-direct report senior managers and executives; proven track record of success with internal customers with differing agendas; proven effectiveness at leading, guiding, and influencing without dominating.
- Experience as trusted advisor to CEO, president or dean on organizational communications, marketing, and other key organizational issues and opportunities.
- Exceptional strategic, critical thinking and creative mind-set.
- Exceptional judgment and discretion dealing with confidential and other sensitive information.
- Ability to take a School-wide perspective when making recommendations and resolving issues.
- Exceptional interpersonal, collaboration and facilitation skills.
- Exceptional writing skills; strong presentation skills; expert PowerPoint skills.

Required Qualifications
Master’s degree or higher with ten years of experience in the areas of strategic planning, product development, marketing and communications leadership, digital media strategy, or the equivalent.
