The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to our mission of saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries. We work at the invitation of governments to support them and the private sector to create and sustain high-quality health systems.
CHAI was founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic with the goal of dramatically reducing the price of life-saving drugs and increasing access to these medicines in the countries with the highest burden of the disease. Over the following two decades, CHAI has expanded its focus. Today, along with HIV, we work in conjunction with our partners to prevent and treat infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. Our work has also expanded into cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and other non-communicable diseases, and we work to accelerate the rollout of lifesaving vaccines, reduce maternal and child mortality, combat chronic malnutrition, and increase access to assistive technology. We are investing in horizontal approaches to strengthen health systems through programs in human resources for health, digital health, and health financing. With each new and innovative program, our strategy is grounded in maximizing sustainable impact at scale, ensuring that governments lead the solutions, that programs are designed to scale nationally, and learnings are shared globally.
At CHAI, our people are our greatest asset, and none of this work would be possible without their talent, time, dedication and passion for our mission and values. We are a highly diverse team of enthusiastic individuals across 40 countries with a broad range of skillsets and life experiences. CHAI is deeply grounded in the countries we work in, with majority of our staff based in program countries. Learn more about our exciting work: http://www.clintonhealthaccess.org

Overview of Program and Position
The Ministry of Health (MoH) and National AIDS Commission (NAC) spearheaded a new effort in 2020 to accelerate the development of replicable district-based approaches to HIV prevention, starting in Blantyre District. The Government of Malawi coordinated with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Georgetown University Center for Innovation in Global Health (CIGH) to develop and launch the Blantyre Prevention Strategy (BPS) (INV-002606), a five-year project using a systems-based approach to build and strengthen district-level capabilities for HIV prevention, including integrated data systems, quality improvement, and accelerated introduction and path to scale for new products such as CAB LA, an injectable form of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).
Across this (INV-051585) and two other associated proposals (INV-050867, INV-048640), CIGH, working on behalf of a CAB LA Expert Group writing team led by the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) Department of HIV/AIDS and Viral Hepatitis (DHA), outlines a plan for delivering the critical insights and lessons for programmatic CAB LA use that will systematically inform the Government of Malawi’s policy development and planning, normative guidelines and donor engagement necessary to accelerate widespread use at scale over a two-and-a-half-year period (December 2022-March 2025). The BPS platform will provide a highly conducive environment to study CAB LA introduction among diverse populations, settings, and delivery channels and will leverage BPS structures, scientific and implementation partners, including sites and investigators on the HPTN 083 and 084 trials. Malawi’s CAB LA pilot will strategically phase implementation across sites and populations across two regions of the country (Blantyre and Lilongwe), provide progressive insights into critical demand and supply-side delivery issues, and answer key clinical and scientific questions through implementation science (IS).
With Support from the Bill and Melinda Gate foundation (BMGF), The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) through Georgetown University is supporting CAB LA pilot implementation in Malawi. CHAI is leading a health system assessment to inform path to scale and develop an evidence-informed policy, financing, supply chain and program environment to support a national CAB LA program that can be model for the region.
Under this work, CHAI will support Ministries of Health and CAB LA expert group to systematically measure and track learnings and adaptations to the core elements of the CAB LA package developed through implementation science and promoting their incorporation into health systems strategies for scale and national guidelines.
CHAI is hiring a Senior Associate to support the technical team in driving forward activities under this objective. The Senior Associate will work to support other programs in strengthening data systems capacities including planning and monitoring through data collection, optimization, and costing analyses.
This Senior Associate will be based in Lilongwe, Malawi with anticipated travel up to 40% of the time, whether locally or internationally.
Working in close collaboration with the CHAI HIV team, the Senior Associate will:
