The Program: 

The Navigator Program is an intensive, targeted, education support service where Case Managers work in collaboration with schools, young people, families, and external stakeholders to find ways to achieve educational goals. 

Navigator provides assertive outreach and case management, supporting young people in government and non-government schools with extreme educational disengagement to re-engage.

Many of these young people have complex barriers to educational engagement & have not responded to school-based engagement interventions. Working with young people, their families & support networks to address issues underlying disengagement & help them re-engage with their education & achieve their goals.

About the role:

Navigator Western Melbourne operates a school re-engagement program supporting young people to explore education pathways and return to education. Utilising your experience working with schools and expertise is addressing barriers to education, this Senior Case Management position will support young people who have disengaged from education.

You will help young people identify their skills, interests and aspirations and alleviate barriers to their participation in education alongside their parents/carers, schools and services. The position reports to the Western Melbourne Team leader and works collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team of, Intake and Assessment Workers, Senior Case Managers, Youth Counsellor, a Groups Facilitator to ensure the successful implementation of this program.

The skills you will use day to day:

  1. Your extensive case management experience, drawing from a variety of appropriate frameworks and theoretical approaches, working with children, families and/or significant others in relation to school engagement matters.
  2. Successfully build rapport with children and young people, who present with a range of complex challenges, and to work towards client goals together achieving successful outcomes.
  3. Excellent written and oral communication, negotiation and liaison skills and the ability to work with government and non-government organisations, community groups and clients’ families/networks.
  4. Knowledge of school environments and educational policy

What you need to know:

  • A salary at SCHADS level 6 which equates to around $102,000 plus super at full time.
  • Pro rate to 22.8hrs or 3 days per week
  • Flexible through the increments up to 6.3 (dependent upon experience 0.8 which is 4 days per week).
  • Fixed term to 31st December 2024, available due to additional funding.
  • Site based at our office in Werribee with outreach across the western suburbs.
