JOB SUMMARY
The safety and well-being of children in an organization or community depend on the crucial role of the Child Protection Senior Officer. He/She oversees and coordinates child protection initiatives, implements programs, policies, and procedures, and provides technical expertise to address child abuse, exploitation, neglect, and other forms of violence against children. The Child Protection Senior Officer collaborates with various stakeholders, develops partnerships, and works towards creating a protective environment for children.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1- Program Management:
The Child Protection Senior Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating child protection programs. He/She ensures these programs align with the organization’s goals and legal frameworks. By monitoring the progress and impact of initiatives, identify areas for improvement and make recommendations accordingly.
2- Policy Development:
To uphold the rights and protection of children, the Child Protection Senior Officer contributes to developing and revising child protection policies, protocols, and guidelines. He/She stays updated on international standards and best practices and ensures compliance with local legislation and regulations to create a comprehensive framework for child protection within the organization or community
3- Training and Capacity Building:
The Child Protection Senior Officer conducts training sessions and workshops to enhance the capacity of staff, partners, and stakeholders in child protection principles, procedures, and relevant legal frameworks. They provide technical support and guidance to ensure the effective implementation of child protection strategies, equipping individuals with the necessary knowledge and skills to safeguard children.
4- Monitoring and Evaluation:
Establishing robust monitoring and evaluation systems is crucial for the Child Protection Senior Officer. They develop mechanisms to track the implementation and impact of child protection programs. By regularly reviewing data and reports, they identify trends, gaps, and emerging issues related to child protection. Based on their analysis, they develop strategies to address these issues effectively.
5-Coordination and Collaboration:
Collaboration with government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and other relevant stakeholders is key to the Child Protection Senior Officer’s role. He/She coordinates child protection activities, shares information, and promotes effective collaboration. Additionally, Child Protection Senior Officer represents the organization in meetings, networks, and forums to advocate for child protection and establish partnerships to address child protection challenges.
6- Case Management:
The Child Protection Senior Officer oversees and supports implementing child protection case management systems. They ensure that reported cases are addressed promptly and appropriately, adhering to child safeguarding protocols and procedures. The child Protection Senior Officer guides staff and partners in effectively managing child protection cases and facilitating the provision of necessary support services.
7- Advocacy and Awareness:
Advocacy for the rights and protection of children is a critical responsibility of the Child Protection Senior Officer. The Child Protection Senior Officer raises awareness about child protection issues through campaigns, community engagement, and media platforms. By leveraging their expertise, they influence policy development and promote the inclusion of child protection considerations in broader development agendas.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The Child Protection Senior Officer should possess a bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work, child protection, psychology, or a related field. Additional certifications or training in child protection or relevant areas are preferred, as they demonstrate a commitment to professional development.
A minimum of [5] years of progressive experience in child protection is required. This experience should include program management including components of child protection programming such as case management, group activities for child wellbeing, caregiver support, community-based protection, and prevention activities. Experience in a leadership or supervisory role is highly desirable, as it demonstrates the ability to guide and support a team.
The Child Protection Senior Officer should understand child protection principles, international standards, and legal frameworks. They should be familiar with child rights, child abuse prevention, and response mechanisms. Additionally, they should know about relevant child protection systems, child welfare services, and child safeguarding protocols. Staying updated on emerging trends and research in child protection is also important.
Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Arabic or Kurdish languages is desirable to effectively communicate with stakeholders, facilitate training sessions, and conduct outreach activities.
Dedication to upholding child rights, promoting child protection, and working towards the overall well-being of children is a fundamental requirement for the Child Protection Senior Officer. They should demonstrate high integrity, empathy, and confidentiality in handling sensitive information and addressing child protection concerns.
