Responsibilities:
- Translate incoming communications to IOM from Arabic to English.
- Translate outgoing communications from IOM to authorities and other counterparts.
- Translate HR documents as needed.
- Translate external information products, such as Situation Reports.
- Translate media, communications, and visibility products, including press releases, human interest stories, social media posts, and community leaflets and banners.
- Provide oral interpretation from English to Arabic and vice versa during relevant meetings and events.
- Translate informal documents between English and Arabic.
- Assist in the development and compilation of reports and other information documents.
- Act as an interpreter in meetings with authorities and prepare draft minutes of the meetings.
- Perform interpretation functions during meetings with any counterpart as required.
- Liaise with external translation and interpretation services, ensuring quality control.
- Follow up on responses to communications and keep management updated.
- Perform any other tasks as required.
Qualifications
Education
- University Degree in translation and/or English Literature Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with four years’ experience.
- Completed Higher Diploma in any of the above fields with six years or relevant experience in similar position.
- Certification in translation or interpretation, or membership in relevant professional associations, (in addition to the education listed in the two previous bullets) an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 4 years related experience in a translation/interpretation preferably in the governmental, charity, development, humanitarian or related field.
- Proven experience supporting translation of various document types, including technical, and public communications.
- Familiarity with the migration sector an added advantage.
- Experience working in high-pressure environments or in emergency responses an added advantage.
- Experience coordinating with translation and interpretation companies and managing budgets an added advantage.
Skills
- Ability to translate and interpret between the target languages (Arabic & English).
- Demonstrated ability to draft and edit written translations in the target languages (Arabic & English).
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills in a multicultural setting, with demonstrated cultural sensitivity and awareness in translation and interpretation work.
- Strong work ethics and commitment to humanitarian principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software packages.
- In depth knowledge of the broad range of migration related subject areas dealt within the Organization an added advantage.
- Proficiency with translation tools such as CAT (Computer-Assisted Translation) software an added advantage.
Languages
- English.
- Arabic.
