EuroHealthNet is the European Partnership for health, equity and wellbeing. It consists of over 70 bodies from European countries responsible for public health and health promotion in Europe. From our office in Brussels, we coordinate policy, advocacy, research, and capacity building activities which help address health inequalities and positively affect the determinants of health. About the position

EuroHealthNet’s activities take place across three complementary Platforms covering Policy, Practice, and Research. A core management and operations team unifies and builds connections between the Platforms. Within the core team, communications activities amplify the messages and expertise of the EuroHealthNet Partnership and ensure reliable, evidence-based, and timely information to public health and social actors and beyond. It makes connections between public health professionals and policy makers, resources, and initiatives to facilitate advocacy for a healthier and fairer Europe. EuroHealthNet tells the stories of people, projects, and ideas at the vanguard of health promotion, social innovation and our mission of tackling health inequalities.

EuroHealthNet is currently looking for a motivated, high-skilled Senior Communications Coordinator to join its dynamic team in Brussels. This experienced communications professional will lead the EuroHealthNet communications team, currently made up of a Communications Coordinator, two Communications Officers and one Research Communications Officer.

The Communications team is part of the wider EuroHealthNet core team, and is in charge of external communications contributing to overall EuroHealthNet Partnership objectives. The position provides opportunities for initiatives and work on specific tasks such as set out below, but also a wide-ranging imperative to contribute their experience and knowledge to ensure credible, accurate and high-quality outputs across the EuroHealthNet work programme.

Accountability

The post is accountable to the relevant Programme Manager and the Director with occasional reporting to the Executive Board as needed.

The purpose of the role is to improve quality and impact of outputs towards concrete objectives. The successful candidate is thus to take part in process coordination and take a problem-solving approach where high-level knowledge and experience is needed. They will need to develop strong networking processes with colleagues, members and stakeholders.

Responsibility

The successful candidate will:

  • Set out and implement the EuroHealthNet Communications Strategy, which outlines our main messages, activities and goals, and aligns our ‘core’ communications work with the activities of our Policy, Practice and Research platforms and of our 15 projects;
  • Coordinate and lead the work of the Communications team in close cooperation with the relevant Programme Manager;
  • Lead the publication of new resources, such as our Policy Précis. This includes proofreading, designing material/working with a designer, writing news releases, sending mailings and updating websites;
  • Coordinate the development of our two newsletters:
    • Our members-only Partnership newsletter ‘Network Intelligence’, which shares exclusive updates about opportunities for funding, training and capacity building;
    • Our monthly public ‘Health Highlights’ newsletter.
  • Build and send mailings, using Mailchimp and CiviCRM;
  • Organise and develop our annual report, summarising all of EuroHealthNet’s activities and impacts;
  • Maintain, update and optimise our websites, which are built using WordPress. (eurohealthnet.eu, health-inequalities.eu, eurohealthnet-magazine.eu, epsr-flashcards.eurohealthet.eu, and health-inequalities.eu/financing-e-guide);
  • Coordinate the EuroHealthNet Communications Network, which brings together communication colleagues and press officers working at our member agencies to collaborate and exchange on good practices;
  • Oversee the development of each edition of the EuroHealthNet Magazine, which is led by a Communications Officer;
  • Oversee the updates and maintenance of health-inequalities.eu, of which a Communications Officer is in charge;
  • Build, maintain and nurture professional relationships with communications officials at European Institutions, stakeholders, and journalists at diverse press/media relevant for effective communications;
  • And more generally:
    • Oversee the use of our social media channels;
    • Organise communications support for our deliverables and outputs (reports, briefings, events) and support for our projects where needed;
    • Develop and promote audio-visual content (e.g. videos and infographics) to share information in different and engaging ways;
    • Help keep our CiviCRM database up-to-date in close cooperation with the operations assistant;
    • Help develop new projects and opportunities for funded work, including EU programmes and commissioned reports for members or other donors.

Profile

  • You are educated to master level in communications with demonstrated understanding of public health, health equity, and health determinants – or you have a degree in a relevant field such as public health, social sciences, humanities, or other health related fields with demonstrated skills in communication;
  • You have 6+ years of relevant experience in communications;
  • You have a thorough understanding of public health, health promotion and disease prevention, health equity and/or the socioeconomic determinants of health;
  • You have exceptional written and oral communication skills in English. Your writing skills will be tested during the interview. Fluency in other languages is an asset;
  • You have experience writing news releases, articles, social media posts, and other content (in English);
  • You have experience proofreading and editing colleagues’ work, including policy briefs, articles, newsletters and other publications;
  • You have the following technical experience:
    • Making graphics and designing publications using Adobe InDesign and Illustrator:
      • Experience creating videos is considered an asset;
      • If you have examples of material that you designed, please share them with us in your application.
    • Maintaining and developing WordPress websites:
      • Knowledge of HTML and CSS is considered an asset;
      • If you have examples of websites/pages that you built, please share them with us in your application.
    • Building and sending mailings with Mailchimp and CiviCRM;
    • Working with Teams and SharePoint.
  • You have demonstrable knowledge of EU policy making processes and EU institutions. Previous experience working on EU-funded projects is a plus;
  • You can deliver high-quality results in a timely fashion and are comfortable working on your own as well as in teams;
  • You are able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously to meet rapidly changing requirements of projects and priorities;
  • You are rigorous and organised, with attention to detail;
  • You have a proactive mind-set, pragmatic approach to problem solving and are willing to take the initiative.

Practicalities

EuroHealthNet offers:

  • A permanent position according to Belgian national legislation;
  • The position is open as part-time (80%) or full-time (100%);
  • A competitive salary ranging between €3.900 and €4.500 gross per month depending on experience and qualifications;

All applicants must be qualified, eligible, and able to work in Belgium, with Belgium as their residency location. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide financial assistance to relocate to Brussels or Belgium.

The post will combine in-office and remote work, as well as occasional travel within Europe. The successful candidate will be supplied with necessary materials to work remotely, as required (e.g., laptop).
