We are currently recruiting a Senior Communications Officer to join our Philanthropy and Communications team.
This a remote position, where we will consider applicants who are homebased in the US, UK, France, and other RI country of operations.

About the opportunity
A storyteller, and a skilled marketer, the Senior Communications Officer will be excellent at spotting communications opportunities, whilst playing an integral role in planning, developing, creating, and evaluating communications content, that drives private sector donations, and raises awareness of RI and our partner communities.
The successful candidate will be excited to get stuck in with the implementation of impactful communications products, as well as contributing to, and leading on, RI’s communication campaigns and projects.
The Senior Communications Officer will work closely with consultants, external agencies, and RI’s support office locations around the globe.
Some international travel to RI’s countries of operation to gather content will be required (less than 10% of total time).
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, write, and edit a range of content including: reports, mass emails, presentations, web articles, social media, and other marketing collateral.
- Regularly pitch ideas for new content and campaigns to senior members of the department and contribute to the maintenance of annual content calendar.
- Build strong working relations with staff in RI’s countries of operation, training them as necessary, and developing efficient procedures for the flow of content from the field.
- Compose and conduct interviews with RI staff and program participants in the communities we work alongside in order to gather new content.
- Contribute to the consistent use of brand identity and voice throughout all RI’s communications and marketing.
- Support the writing of press releases and media alerts that engage philanthropists, the press, thought leaders, and the general public.
- Commission photo and film gathering as necessary, overseeing the process from tendering for photographers to captioning and storing outputs.
Create other multi-media content including but not limited to graphics, factsheets, and brochures that highlights Relief International’s impact and success. - Lead on the development and implementation of key campaigns and projects as required.
- Monitor, measure and report on impact and effectiveness of communications content where necessary.
- Support administration of digital communications including website maintenance and management of mailing lists.
About you
- BA in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, International Relations OR equivalent experience.
- Previous communications experience working for a non-profit or non-governmental organization, preferably in an international development context.
- Excellent writing and storytelling skills, in particular, the ability to convey complex topics concisely, empathetically and emotively.
- Superior proofreading and editing skills are required.
- Strong project management skills with experience managing multiple projects to completion within tight deadlines.
- Willingness to travel overseas to countries where RI has offices and operations.
- Email and website CMS experience (Wordpress) a plus.
