At the center of this collaboration is the CIF Secretariat hosted by The World Bank which supports the work of the CIF governing bodies, including strategy and policy development as well as reporting; manages internal and external institutional relations as well as strategic partnerships; supports program development; delivers a large program of thought leadership, knowledge and learning work; is responsible for portfolio risk management and new private sector capital mobilization modalities and initiatives.

Duties and Accountabilities: 

The ideal candidate will:

Roles and responsibilities:

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer of the Climate Investment Funds (CIF), this is a senior management role within CIF and is responsible for developing, implementing and managing the Secretariat’s communication strategy. 

Specific responsibilities include: 

  • Lead and manage the output of the Communications team, including management of the staff and consultants, to ensure that CIF’s values, brand and vision are effectively portrayed across all communication platforms and events.
  • Lead delivery and implementation of the CIF Communications Strategy and annual Action Plans, including media and digital (web, social media, and email content) outreach.  
  • Manage CIF communication channels and effectively implement day-to-day communications operations to ensure that new and consistent information (article links, stories, and events) is shared regularly. 
  • Lead delivery and implementation of media relations plans. 
  • Drive the research, writing, editing, and production of a variety of corporate and marketing communications materials. 
  • In accordance with industry best practice formulate systems to track, measure and analyze the effectiveness of communications and lead continuous improvement.
  • Develop and implement policies to enhance the efficiency of the communications team and to further develop the building and maintaining of a positive corporate brand.
  • Support and supervise individual team members, who are working on projects under their management, ensuring that regular and consistent supervision and appraisals are provided, in line with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Actively promoting coordination, collaboration, and information sharing within and across teams to maximize results across CIF’s full set of priority issues in pursuit of the secretariat’s objectives. 
  • Coordinate and manage key leadership communications.
  • Lead the delivery of strategic events. 
  • Participate in annual budget planning and ensure responsible stewardship of resources.
  • Manage relationships with key CIF stakeholders including the MDB’s, World Bank colleagues and third-party vendors to deliver the communications strategy. 
Selection Criteria:
  • Master’s degree in Communications, Public Relations or a related field such as Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or a related field is preferred. 
  • 8 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing communication strategies (media, digital etc) at corporate and project level.
  • Extensive experience working in a multi-discipline fast paced environment.
  • Strong teamwork, flexibility, and adaptability, and ability to successfully navigate complex issues and challenges in a multi-stakeholder, multi-cultural environment.
  • Proven track record of people management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Awareness of the climate finance architecture and experience of working with the multi-lateral development banks.
  • Have demonstrated ability to learn and adopt new technology quickly and use it effectively.
  • Have advanced proficiency in Microsoft Windows applications, including Excel, Word, and Power Point, and the World Bank’s standard technology packages, and familiarity with the Internet and web-based research.
