  • VPS Grade 5: $106,534 – $128,897 plus superannuation.

About the Council

The Sentencing Advisory Council is an independent statutory body established under the Sentencing Act 1991. Our mission is to bridge the gap between the community, the courts and government by informing, educating, and advising on sentencing issues. The Council aims to provide sound evidence upon which to base sentencing policies and practice, and to engage with the community in relation to sentencing policies and practices. The Council’s functions are set out in legislation and include conducting research, publishing statistical information, gauging public opinion, consulting with the community, government, courts and others about sentencing issues, and providing community education in metropolitan and regional Victoria.

About the Role

Reporting to the CEO, the Council’s Senior Community Engagement Officer is responsible for coordinating the Council’s community engagement program and social media presence, maintaining and developing relationships with the Council’s key stakeholders, including the media and community, and ensuring that the Council’s educational products continue to be best practice and fit-for-purpose.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Leading the development and implementation of the Council’s community engagement strategy
  • Leading the development and implementation of the Council’s social media strategy
  • Developing, maintaining, innovating and delivering the Council’s suite of educational products (eg. You be the Judge sessions, Virtual You be the Judge, A Quick Guide to Sentencing)

As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Demonstrated experience developing educational materials
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder relations and community engagement
  • Demonstrated experience providing strategic media advice
  • Knowledge of the Victorian criminal justice system would be highly desirable

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A tertiary qualification in communications, public relations or similar field is preferred
