Hours: 37.5 hours/week (negotiable), permanent 
Starting salary: £25,942 pro rata
Reports to: Programme Manager 
Direct reports: Society trainees

About Cymdeithas Eryri Snowdonia Society: 

Eryri is a special place full of nationally and internationally important habitats and
wildlife. Climate change and the global nature crisis means that Eryri needs protecting now
more than ever before. That’s where we come in – we are the only charity existing solely to
protect and enhance the beauty and special qualities of the Eryri National Park. Our dedicated
team of staff, trustees, members and volunteers work tirelessly to ensure Eryri and its
habitats and wildlife are here to stay. 

Practical conservation is a significant strand of our work, and we need someone to join our
team to lead and coordinate our diverse programme going forward. We work with a wide range of
partners on tasks such as tree planting, invasive species control and habitat management to
name but a few. We also work in very close partnership with Eryri National Park Authority, the
National Trust and the Outdoor Partnership on our flagship volunteer programme Caru Eryri.

We are looking for a new team member. Are you an organised, enthusiastic and knowledgeable
individual with experience of supervising a team and coordinating and leading practical
conservation work? If so, then this could be the job for you.

Practical conservation work and training with volunteers: 

  1. Lead on delivery of the Society’s practical volunteering programme, including achievement
    of key outputs required by external grant funding.
  2. Organise and lead volunteer workdays, including staffing / leader coordination, risk
    assessments, volunteer recruitment, practical arrangements, publicity of opportunities and work
    carried out, recording of volunteer activity and reporting on work completed.
  3. Lead on Health and Safety for the volunteering programme, and, after suitable training, for
    all the Society’s activities; keep up to date with relevant guidance, legislation and best
    practice; co-ordinate H&S (including Covid) protocols, records and risk assessments.
  4. Work to ensure that safeguarding protocols are followed.
  5. Inhouse accredited training: after sufficient training, you will contribute to development
    of new units and resources, organise and lead training sessions, carry out assessments.
  6. Practical partnerships: working with the Programme Manager and Director, develop long-term
    programmes of work; identify and prioritise practical work opportunities with partners, ensure
    good communications, gather feedback and apply continual improvement.
  7. Work to increase the diversity of volunteers and the improve the quality of the volunteer
    experience.
  8. Contribute to practical work at Tŷ Hyll

Staff management, supervision and development: 

  1. Line Manage the Society’s trainees (there are currently two). Support them, ensure they
    have what they need to do develop and do their jobs effectively and that they are performing
    their duties satisfactorily.
  2. Support the development of conservation staff, trainees and work experience placements.

Other responsibilities: 

  1. Input to monitoring and evaluation of the Society’s work, and, with other staff, develop
    effective impact reporting.
  2. Represent the Society at events and to groups, in partnerships and in the media to build
    support for our work.
  3. Assist in other areas of the Society’s work as necessary

 Person specification: 

Essential 

  1. Experience of planning, administering and leading practical conservation work with
    volunteers
  2. Experience of supervising / leading a team
  3. Working knowledge of and a passion for Snowdonia and conservation.
  4. Ability to be self-motivated, organised and problem solving in a dynamic working situation
  5. Ability to communicate effectively in both Welsh and English
  6. Competent in use of Word, Excel and Powerpoint, updating websites and social media.
  7. This role may involve working with young people under the age of 18 and adults who may be
    classed as vulnerable or at risk. The successful candidate will require a satisfactory enhanced
    DBS check (evidenced through subscription to the Update Service or by application following
    appointment).
  8. Current driving license, and use of a vehicle with business use insurance – work takes
    place across Snowdonia and hand tools will need to be transported to the worksites. Out of
    office mileage is reimbursed.

Desirable: 

  1. Experience of delivering accredited learning or training
  2. Experience of fundraising and member recruitment in a not-for-profit organisation
  3. Experience of working in partnership with other organisations
