Digital Services are responsible for the digital information, systems and technologies used by staff and students across The Open University. Covering all aspects of digital technology at the OU, from sourcing and maintaining systems, through to providing frontline IT support for staff and students.

The role

The Open University is recruiting 2 Senior Data Analysts.

The purpose of these roles is to lead pieces of complex data analysis to support data design.  The post holder will be responsible for leading the end-to-end process of analysis, from defining the initial scope of work to being responsible for the analysis and delivery of the final output. They will also be responsible for documenting this analysis alongside the data models produced by the Data Architects.

In doing so, you will work with the Data Architects and relevant stakeholders across the university to define the scope of analysis to be completed and distil the complex to simple. You will carry out robust analysis using a range of complex data sets, including both qualitative and quantitative data.

Although this role is aligned to our Milton Keynes office, we are flexible on location across the UK, with the understanding of occasional ad-hoc attendance onsite.

Skills and experience

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in:

  • Understanding Data Management principles and data modelling techniques at all levels, both operational and analytical.
  • Strong practical ability to manipulate and analyse large and complex datasets, using SQL or equivalent, and to take a lead role in advising and developing other analysts in these skills.
  • Proven ability to understand complex business questions and take a lead role in the development of a coherent analytical framework which delivers insight into the performance.
  • Excellent communications skills, able to confidently present and liaise with senior stakeholders on a regular basis.
