POSITION SUMMARY: The Senior Development Associate will
primarily support Freedom House’s fundraising with institutional
donors, though will assist with all aspects of the development
office, which is responsible for securing and sustaining financial
support from a range of individuals, foundations, and businesses.
This position reports to the Sr. Development Officer, Institutional
Giving.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct research using fundraising databases, news searches,
and other tools to produce briefings for fundraisers and executive
staff in preparation for donor and prospect meetings. Contribute to proposals and donor reports, and draft
donor-centric communications like project updates, acknowledgement
letters, and other correspondence. Support fundraising and prospect management activities for the
Development team utilizing Salesforce, the organization’s donor
database. Support the operations and project management needs of the
development office. Assist with the organization’s corporate and individual donor
and prospects, as needed. Work with development and executive teams, consultants, and
vendors to plan, implement and staff donor events like the annual
awards dinner, receptions, briefings and other engagement
opportunities. Maintain general awareness of and interest in the programs and
activities of Freedom House, and a commitment to the organization’s
mission. Other duties as assigned. JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent experience. Experience:
2-5 years of experience in a nonprofit development department,
a grantmaking organization, or in private sector business
development Familiarity with prospect research, fundraising processes,
effective solicitations and database management. Prefer candidates with experience in or commitment to democracy
promotion, human rights, or international affairs. Technical Skills and Abilities:
Strong ability to communicate effectively and persuasively in
English, both verbally and in writing. Superb attention to detail, with consistent production of
timely, error-free work. Skilled in research and applying strong analytical skills to
provide profiles and briefings to development team and
president. Strong capability to take on additional tasks when required,
work independently, and highly motivated to take the initiative to
constantly improve systems and processes. Self-disciplined,
action-oriented style. Prior experience with Salesforce or other customer relationship
management database. Knowledge of MS Office is required. Excellent interpersonal skills, including effectively
interacting with people with a wide range of political and social
views. Skilled at establishing trusted partnerships throughout
organization and using expert judgment when dealing with internal
and external constituents. Exercise discretion in maintaining and managing
highly-confidential information. Strong ability to plan, organize, and prioritize under pressure

Salaries are commensurate with experience and based on pay
grades that prioritize equity across the organization. Salary range
is between $55,000 to $67,000 annualized, dependent upon

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Essential functions are typically performed in an office
setting or remote work. May require long hours including evenings and weekends to
complete tasks. Travel to some countries, for business or in some cases
