Position Title: Senior Digital Writer and Editor

Location: Remote (USA)

Salary: $76,000 – $84,000

Status: Full-time, salaried, exempt

HOW YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE TO OUR MISSION:

• Produce compelling written content and reports to assist fundraisers in stewarding major donors.
• Write newsletter articles that tell compelling stories and convey the technical aspects of our work accurately.
• Write compelling hard ask email appeals to a variety of audiences that help us reach our goals for fundraising campaigns.
• Help us steward donors by managing the process of writing and compiling marketing publications across multiple teams.
• Help convert website visitors to donors by writing and editing compelling website copy.
• Pursue all of the above objectives in alignment with our core values.

TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE, WE’RE HOPING YOU’LL HAVE:

• Strong experience writing about conservation concepts effectively. This includes an excellent understanding of science and conservation concepts, and strong research skills to efficiently find relevant information for articles. We also hope you have a strong track record of writing articles that compel audiences through the use of effective storytelling, breaking down and synthesizing a wide array of materials to extract the most compelling, salient points. Given the array of audiences you’ll be writing for, this will also require the ability to adapt language, format and style for various media and audiences, clearly express complex ideas in written form, and edit long-form writing to website appropriate, emotional and urgent copy to compel website visitors. And of course, you’ll need strong copy editing skills
• Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively across departments to gather relevant information for all content and ensure its accuracy in final copy. This will require you to ensure that stakeholders across levels and departments meet important deadlines, help your supervisor effectively prioritize and meet deadlines, and effectively pitch new ideas to management.
• An interest in learning about fundraising writing. We don’t expect you to know how to do this already, so your supervisor is excited to teach you. To make this work, you’ll need to be interested in learning how to write urgent and emotional fundraising appeals for a variety of audiences, write short, punchy, emotional copy that prioritizes emotional appeal and urgency, and consistently stay up to date on cutting-edge fundraising best practices.
• Strong project and time management skills and the ability to be flexible, pivot, and be responsive while working on multiple projects at once. You’ll also need a strong working competency with Google Suite software and the ability to learn new project management software quickly, as well as a demonstrated track record of solving problems efficiently by researching and asking smart questions.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Rainforest Trust is a remote first organization and the incumbent will be expected to work primarily from home with an excellent internet connection, though part-time office space may be available in Warrenton, VA and/or Washington DC. Occasional national and/or international travel may be required for organizational meetings and other events.

ANTICIPATED SALARY

The salary range for this position is $76,000- $84,000 commensurate with experience. This base compensation range represents the anticipated low and high range of wages for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as the candidate’s location, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
