Purpose

The Senior Dining Supervisor helps manage day-to-day operations and supervises all phases of food preparation and service. This can include but is not limited to ordering food, supervising food preparation, cashiering, and serving food to customers. This position will also oversee the hiring, training of personnel, evaluations, corrective action, and various administrative tasks. Assist in controlling and maintaining University Housing and Dining (UHD) food and labor cost. The position requires the use of initiative, judgment, and coordination with internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop effective working relationships and positively influence and motivate staff. Work as a team member in a fast-paced environment. Manage professional, support, and student staff. 

  • Manage day-to-day operations. Supervise all phases of food preparation and service. Ensure that departmental standards for 5 Star customer service and food quality are achieved. Maintain current knowledge of all areas of responsibilities within the department and the University environment. 

  • Oversee training for new employees. Anticipate and identify issues and areas of improvement. Produce viable and logical solutions. Determine needs and assist in controlling labor costs.

  • Serve as backup for Dining Managers and Supervisors when requested. Drive UT vehicle. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduation or GED.

  • Three years of food service experience in a restaurant, commercial, or institutional facility.

  • One year of supervisor experience in food service or similar capacity.

  • Experience with operating standard kitchen equipment.

  • Ability to complete and maintain University Housing and Dining Food Safety Training and or ServSafe.

  • Ability to complete and maintain University Housing and Dining cash handling training.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Culinary Degree.

  • Four years or more of food service experience in a commercial or institutional facility.

  • Two years or more supervisory experience in food service or similar capacity.

  • Experience training, coaching, and evaluating staff in a high volume/fast-paced food service environment.

  • Experience managing labor and food cost.

  • Experience maintaining inventory control.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office and computer systems. 

  • Professional demeanor and ability to work with a large customer base. 

Driving Required

This job requires a class “C” operator’s driver’s license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver’s license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Salary Range

$50,000 + depending on qualifications

Workdays, area, and work hours may vary based on the needs of the unit and University Housing and Dining (UHD).
