Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Six (6) years of full-time experience in Advancement, fundraising, marketing, or a related field in higher education, a large non-profit or a healthcare institution. Experience managing events, projects and/or programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Additional years (7+) of experience in Advancement, fundraising, marketing, or a related field in higher education, a large non-profit or a healthcare institution. Experience managing volunteers or an advisory board.
Brief Description of Duties:  
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Senior Director of Campaign Operations will oversee the planning and execution of the public phase of the campaign and will be a critical leader involved in the coordination of volunteer and donor engagement and advancement communications strategies relative to the campaign. The incumbent should have proven prioritization and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously. They should exhibit leadership skills with the ability to work independently, make decisions and resolve issues working in a deadline-driven environment. The Senior Director holds a key role responsible for orchestrating the processes, metrics, and relationships that will lead to a successful and comprehensive campaign and positioning Stony Brook well for future advancement success. The position requires a balance of creativity and interpersonal skills, project management and process-oriented functions, as well as an understanding of development–including major and principal gift efforts–helping lead a $1B+ campaign. 

  • Ensure alignment with the campaign plans, budgets, and timetables. Manage and execute a campaign calendar of scheduled activities and regular progress reports to campaign leaders. Manage regular campaign communications updates with staff, volunteer leaders, and current and prospective donors. Monitor campaign progress using established metrics to oversee campaign plans, tactics and budgets.
  • Serve as primary campaign committee manager and volunteer liaison. Lead and develop all necessary materials for committee meetings. Develop and execute the campaign schedule. Oversee monthly assignments and follow-up actions regarding all campaign related activities with campaign leaders and donors. Track actionable items provide follow-up, clarification, and support on actionable items.
  • Develop and coordinate communication strategies, events, and engagement opportunities. Plan and implement campaign cultivation and recognition events and engagement communications. Prepare status reports for the Advancement Executive team and university leadership. Ensure appropriate coordination of volunteer and donor recognition and acknowledgement activities. Oversee campaign events, including strategy for cultivation events, focus groups and public outreach activities.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Special Notes:
The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
This position is at-will. However, we anticipate that the successful candidate will serve for a period of five years with the possibility of transitioning to a future Advancement role as the conclusion of the Campaign.
