The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for
Senior Director of Development, Howard R. Hughes College of
Engineering, Division of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement

ROLE of the POSITION
The Senior Director of Development serves as the UNLV Howard R.
Hughes College of Engineering chief development officer, managing
the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of
major and principal gift prospects. The Senior Director also
manages a personal major and principal gift portfolio. The Senior
Director will be expected to travel outside of Southern Nevada at
least 30% of the time to engage current and prospective donors for
UNLV Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering and UNLV.
The Senior Director will work collaboratively with the Associate
Vice President for Development, and the Dean to advance the mission
of the Unit by conceptualizing and implementing strategies to
increase financial support from alumni and donors and directing the
fundraising strategy of the UNLV Howard R. Hughes College of
Engineering. The Senior Director will be responsible for meeting
individual and Unit fundraising goals.
The Senior Director will be responsible for managing a donor
portfolio of up to 125 prospects with a philanthropic capacity to
give $50,000 or more to UNLV. The Senior Director will initiate and
conduct at least 10 – 12 visits or substantive contacts per month
for the purpose of determining philanthropic interests, capacity,
and readiness. The Senior Director will oversee all fundraising
efforts for the UNLV Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering.
The Senior Director will develop tailored cultivation and
solicitation strategies and present written and oral proposals to
donors. The Senior Director of Development will solicit gifts
directly or in conjunction with the Dean. The Senior Director will
serve as the chief fundraising advisor to the Dean, assisting in
developing fundraising plans to meet the strategic goals of the
UNLV Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering. The position will
lead the College’s strategic planning for short-term and long-term
fundraising goals and work with external and internal constituents
to promote understanding of fundraising priorities.

The Senior Director will be required to work evenings and/or
weekends as necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the
position. Regular travel outside of Nevada will be required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited
college or university as recognized by the United States Department
of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation
(CHEA) with a minimum of five to seven years of experience with
major and principal gifts fundraising within an educational setting
or related field. Demonstrated success with major and principal
gifts fundraising within an educational setting. Demonstrated
experience working collaboratively with academic or industry
leaders, staff, and volunteers. Experience working in a
metric-driven environment. One to three years of supervisory
experience is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in alumni relations and/or external affairs.
Experience in higher education and in dealing with professionals
and executives from private and public sectors. Three to five years
of supervision experience is preferred. Experience overseeing a
unit fundraising program. Oversight of a unit-based capital
fundraising initiative.

SALARY RANGE
The salary range for the Senior Director of Development, Howard
R. Hughes College of Engineering is $130,000-$140,000. Salary
competitive with those at similarly situated institutions.
