Required Experience: Master’s degree. International program work experience; 10 years. Experience must include at least five years of staff management experience as well as grant writing or the management of grant writing. Must have a strong understanding of organization development, knowledge of global relief and development practices and standards. Understanding of the coordination and integration of multiple funding streams is strongly preferred.

Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S.A. for any employer.

Travel: Up to 25% of the time both in development and fragile contexts.

Estimated Salary Range: $130,000.00 – $160,000.00

The Job

World Vision is looking for a Senior Director of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion. This is a highly-technical programs leadership role. It sits within our International Programs Group and requires international development experience. Candidates must bring a background in the developing country programming and development surrounding GESI.

The individual stepping into this role will…

  • Lead a team of technical experts in Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI), developing and executing a strategy for increasing GESI mainstreaming, GESI-specific programming, organizational change, and positioning World Vision as a leader in innovative GESI responses.
  • Represent World Vision’s programming in GESI to major public and private donors, NGOs, universities and other professional organizations. Secure critical public and private funding resources as well as build and strengthen partnerships with donors and other agencies.
  • Help carry out our Christian organization’s mission, vision, and strategies.
  • Personify the ministry of World Vision by witnessing to Christ and ministering to others through life, deed, word and sign

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

Leadership:

  • Provide leadership and demonstrate collaboration in developing and executing against a shared services mandate in support of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) excellence that meets the prioritized needs of all IPG to build evidence of impact and support increased revenue acquisition.
  • Lead prioritization and work collaboratively with WVUS stakeholders and relevant WV partners to set out joint and individual GESI agendas, coordinated resources, research, share ongoing learning, and communicate to senior WVUS and WVI leadership on findings in order to strengthen the WV evidence base and aid in stronger revenue acquisition.
  • Escalate key insights, opportunities and risks to IPG and WVI leadership as required to assure quality GESI impact and increasing revenue.
  • Provide leadership in the development of technical assistance and capacity building strategies.
  • Support integration between relevant WVUS teams and WVI to ensure policies and practices are consistent and optimal.
  • Support prioritized categories of need and specific programs in development of GESI capacity to achieve overall improvement.
  • Provide leadership with information regarding performance pertaining to specific objectives, performance indicators, planning, budgeting and operating procedures and advise of areas of risk.

Management:

  • Lead, manage, mentor, and provide conflict resolution support to team members.
  • Lead development of an annual business plan with clear initiatives and deliverables.
  • Regularly review and monitor results toward objectives and indicators and coach staff in order to ensure the team mandate is achieved.
  • Ensure team representation in annual ministry planning and budgeting process, presenting team goals, negotiating budget requests, and ensuring adequate resources to achieve team goals.
  • Hire, fire, train, counsel, evaluate, and recommend salary increases and promotions for those under direct supervision.

Relationships/Networks:

  • Establish collaborative relationships, networks and joint plans with other WVUS, IPG teams, WVI partners, and Support Office counterparts, representing and promoting WVUS IPG’s perspective and requirements as needed to facilitate the efficient accomplishment of strategic goals and objectives that inform effective operations and increase income for WVUS.

Technical Assistance/Capacity Building:

  • Ensure an aligned and consistently high-quality approach to WVUS program performance management is developed.
  • Maintain knowledge of international development, shared services delivery, and GESI best practices for WVUS international programs and stay abreast of research, standards, and donor guidelines.
  • Both influence and promote the implementation of agreed WVUS and WVI standards among groups of WVUS, IPG staff members in program design and implementation.
  • Organize, facilitate, or participate in formal training workshops and mentoring.
  • Maintain awareness of corporate goals, objectives, organizational announcements, and activities. Reference and follow organizational policies and procedures, seeking clarity as needed.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in related field or equivalent (ten years) work experience required. In addition to education or education equivalent, requires International program work experience; 10 years.
  • Experience must include at least five years of staff management experience as well as grant writing or the management of grant writing.
  • Must have a strong understanding of organization development, knowledge of global relief and development practices and standards, especially on GESI.
  • Strong understanding of the work of World Vision and excellent working knowledge of the World Vision Partnership structures, and a broad understanding of the coordination and integration of multiple funding streams is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with USAID, required.
  • HR and DEI experience will not suffice – must have experience with developing country programming.

The ability to speak, understand, and write in a foreign language may be required based on team needs.

Salary Range & Benefits:

  • WVUS Pay Grade Level: 229
  • The full range for this position is $107,412.98 – 178,259.84
  • The estimated hiring range is $130,000.00 – $160,000.00 a year.
  • This range applies to locations with a market similar to our Washington D.C. office. A different range may apply based on your work location.
  • Job offers within the range are based on relevant job qualifications and pay equity.
