Location: Norwich, Norfolk, NR1 1RY

Salary: £29,484 – £34,000

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full Time

Whether you are already a Senior Ecologist or looking to take your next step into a more senior
role this position will provide you with an opportunity to build on your existing experience,
leading and delivering on a range of projects.

Norfolk Wildlife Services is a professional, experienced and dedicated team offering a
comprehensive range of ecological and arboricultural consultancy services. All our profits are
donated to our parent charity, Norfolk Wildlife Trust for the benefit of nature conservation in
Norfolk.

Responsibilities

Our focus is on providing high quality ecological expertise to ensure our client’s projects
move forward while ensuring protection and benefits for nature and wildlife. As a key member of
the team you will undertake a wide range of ecological consultancy contracts on behalf of NWS
clients including:

  • Protected species surveys
  • Site and habitat surveys and assessments (including BNG)
  • Mitigation strategies for a wide range of habitats and species.
  • Conservation management advice (species and habitats)
  • Ecological Clerk of Works on selected projects

In addition, you will have line management responsibilities for an Assistant Ecologist and will
delegate for the Principal Ecologist as needed.

About You

We are looking for someone with a degree in ecology or its equivalent and ideally membership of
CIEEM or be working towards it. Applications are particularly welcome from Ecologists
who hold at least one Natural England (of other equivalent) protected species licence
preferably Bat Survey Level 2 (or above).

You will enjoy working as part of a small, committed team and relish the challenge of working
with a range of clients on different projects. In addition, you will ideally have:

  • A minimum of 4 years relevant work experience.
  • Understanding, and experience in the application, of UK environmental legislation and
    policy.
  • Experience in ecological field survey work (including to UKHab and protected species).
  • Have up to date knowledge of, and familiarity with, survey guidance for a range of
    protected species.
  • Experience in report writing (including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, management plans
    and Ecological Impact Assessments), and development of mitigation measures.
  • Previous experience in conservation or with a consultancy business;
  • A valid UK driving licence and access to own transport with business insurance use.
