- Collaboratively develop goals, objectives, policies for the watershed planning, asset management, and GIS and technology groups which further the city strategic plan and stormwater goals
- Manage the development of the stormwater capital improvements plan by collaborating across the division to identify priorities and appropriate funding levels to meet those priorities. Develop cash flow scenarios to support debt financing strategies
- Actively develop planning projects through stakeholder meetings and collaboration with other City Departments, looking for opportunities where goals align
- Develop programs and projects to support implementation of priority City initiatives such as the Green Stormwater Infrastructure Policy
- Provide day to day leadership and work with staff to promote a high-performance, customer service-oriented work environment
- Represent the planning and asset management group in meetings with governmental agencies, community groups, professional organizations, and meeting with individuals
- Develop programs that support equitable community engagement and promote watershed stewardship. Seek opportunities to expand stormwater’s level of service
- Manage response to critical or emergency situations; makes engineering management decisions and provides direction of issue resolution
- Lead and/or collaborate with staff on presentations, workshops, and trainings related to watershed planning, asset management, and more
- Prepare presentations for stakeholders, including the Stormwater Management Advisory Commission, to share program goals and progress
- Supervises staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring procedures
- Assist in managing and/or mentoring temporary staff / interns, as opportunities arise
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or directly related field, five years of professional engineering and/or construction/project management experience and two years of supervisory experience
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Licensing and Certifications:
- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
