Senior Environmental Planner

About our opportunity

Our Development Services team are shaping a better Moreton Bay by assessing and managing the effects of development on the community and environment of Moreton Bay, working in partnership with the development industry to design and construct infrastructure for the community as well as levying and recovering infrastructure charges to fund new and upgraded major community infrastructure.

As a Senior Environmental Planner, you will lead the assessment of development applications relating to vegetation clearing and provide specialist advice for moderately complex development application relating to biodiversity, environmental management, and bushfire hazards to meet the needs of the community within the Moreton Bay Region.

Additionally, you will:

• undertake site inspections and investigations to support the assessment of development applications including resolution of environmental management issues
• provide technical oversight and guidance to Planners in the review and assessment of development applications
• build strong relationships across a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders

About you

We are seeking someone with extensive knowledge and experience in the delivery of planning assessment and compliance matters relating to environmental planning. A Degree in Environmental Planning, Ecology, Environmental Science, or equivalent qualification.

You will have comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices relating to the planning, design, protection, and rehabilitation of environmental areas. With comprehensive knowledge of the nature conservation, vegetation management and environmental offset legislation in Queensland.

You will also have:

• general induction licence (white card) and driver’s licence
• considerable experience in applying relevant environmental, planning and development legislation and policy
• knowledge of the State Planning Policy, the SEQ Regional Plan, the Planning scheme, and the Queensland Environmental Offsets Framework.
• strong influencing and negotiation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively to a range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
