The State Water Resources Control Board has an opening for a Senior Environmental Scientist in the Office of Research Planning and Performance. This position is located in the heart of Downtown Sacramento, close to light rail stations and other public transportation.

The State and Regional Water Boards regularly develop or adjust policies for the protection of the environment, for public health, or for water resource allocation; this work must reflect economic and scientific perspectives and an effective use of data. You would be a main leader of the team responsible for short-term and long-term projects. Short-term projects will include collaboratively conducting economic analysis; soliciting external, independent assessments of the use of specific science in specific policy processes; and leading ad hod projects. Long-term projects include supporting the development of employee training that meets the evolving scientific and technical identification, development, or implementation of actions to implement the Water Board’s Racial Equity Resolution, Human Right to Water Resolution, and Climate Change Resolution.

Duties:

Directs activities of technical staff responsible for implementation of the CalEPA External Scientific Peer Review Program and economic analyses informing and supporting State Water Board regulations, policies and plans. Lead special projects, conducts analysis of emerging needs, and is responsible for the identification and development of actions to implement the Water Board’s Racial Equity Resolution, Racial Equity Action Plan, Human Right to Water Resolution, and Climate Change Resolution.

Salary information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience.

Pay: $10,331.00 – $12,843.00 per month
