About the roleThis role requires a talented Environment & Sustainability Advisor looking for their next step to this Senior role. A good all-rounder in regards to environmental compliance and environmental sustainability (carbon/design focussed), you will provide guidance, support and advice to ensure compliance with the Balfour Beatty integrated Business Management System (BMS), legislative requirements, Client and Local Planning standards. This role is for someone with previous buildings related experience who enjoys working in the ever-changing environment of construction. The role will require some travel around the Midlands / West Midlands area therefore the successful candidate must have a full clean driving licence and be happy to travel to with very occasional stays away from home. There will also be the opportunity for remote working.What you’ll be doing
- Advising project teams on start up documentation and licensing requirements for new projects.
- Compiling required environmental plans, method statements and risk assessments as part of the pre construction project phase
- Liaising with experts such as ecologists, archaeologists and designers to determine and support implementation of the above through key mitigation/targets/processes.
- Providing advice to construction teams regarding pollution prevention and environmental best practice this may be in the form of developing management plans, delivering training, site inspections or chairing meetings
- Ensuing compliance with environmental legislation and contractual/planning requirements during all construction and demolition activities by way of regular site inspections and reviews of projects.
- Ensuring the maintenance of a site waste management plan and collation of the waste records for all waste movement offsite including those from subcontractors.
- Ensuring maintenance and collation of other sustainability records such carbon and material sourcing records including those from subcontractors.
- Advising on noise, vibration and air quality monitoring as necessary and undertaking where applicable.
- Provide support to investigate incidents, observations and/or audit findings
- Liaison with key environmental stakeholders including the Client, EA and Local Authorities as necessary.
- Reporting on and developing initiatives to improve environmental performance onsite.
- Engage with site teams to identify best practice environmental mitigations and improved environmental sustainability initiatives.
- Ensure lessons learned are effectively communicated across the Project /Business area
Who we’re looking for
- Educated to Degree level in a relevant field (Environment/Sustainability).
- Understanding of current environmental legislation and best practice relating to construction projects – including waste management, pollution prevention and material sourcing.
- Familiarity with routine environmental inspections and reporting for construction projects
- Experience with Waste Duty of Care requirements and documents
- Experience or at least good understanding of Carbon Footprinting / life cycle approaches to carbon (desirable)
- Good interpersonal skills, a good communicator with influencing and persuasion skills
- Proven experience of incident investigation/fact finding.
- Practitioner Membership of IEMA or similar.
