A growing, family business, employing around 150 people they are looking to grow further.

They are looking for a Senior Estimator to join their team. Known for projects in the Railway, Highways and Construction Industry, working alongside various Tier 1 Contractors. This would be a great position for someone who has experience in the steelwork sector and can confidently apply their skills, knowledge, and experience to other well-known, large-scale projects.

Reports To: Estimating Manager

Job Function: Collect and analysis data to estimate the time, money, materials, and labour required to deliver the Customer requirements for a project or manufacture a product. Prepare accurate estimates and quotations from enquiries received.

Job Duties:

  • Gather first-hand information from both internal departments and external suppliers. Liaise with departments to produce accurate costing information.
  • By understanding the project/program and its requirements, prepare work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
  • Creating accurate material take offs, both manually and by use of Tekla/Reutt software packages.
  • Present tender proposals to the Sales and Contracts team for review and sign off, director review and sign off as value levels dictate.
  • Determine key variables for cost and other estimates by identifying labour, material, and time requirements by the related documents to compute cost.
  • Resolves discrepancies by collecting and analysing information.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key suppliers, obtain and review offers and quotes from subcontractors or suppliers.
  • Presents prepared estimate by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information to the appropriate persons (project manager, clients, bidding competition, etc.).
  • Follow up initial submission with client for feedback, all tenders of interest should be forwarded to the Estimating Manager.
  • Upon tender award, set up and present to a handover meeting to the Contracts team.
  • Prepares special reports by collecting, analysing, and summarising information and trends.
  • Maintains cost data base by ensuring new suppliers, amended prices, etc. are notified for systems to be updated..
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending meetings and review new publications as required.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed and actively participating in team meetings.
  • Support the Estimating Manager with the preparation of pre-qualifications and pre-bid submissions.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Detailed knowledge and experience of the technical elements of architectural structural steel fabrication and the construction industry.
  • Ideally at least 3 years’ experience of estimating within the industry managing elements of Steel construction projects including being able to fully read and interpret working drawings.
  • Ability to undertake a reasonable level of technical and financial calculations
  • Excellent project planning and organisational skills.
  • Business acumen and analytical financial skills with the ability to make sound judgements/assessments in relation to budget costs from limited information.
  • Excellent Communication through verbal, written and interpersonal negotiating skills
  • Excellent time management.
  • Good team working skills (essential)
  • IT Skills with the ability to use the standard Microsoft packages.
  • Ability to be self-motivated.
  • Awareness of building law and regulations, contract law and health and safety law

Working Environment:

Mainly office based.

Working Hours

7.45am to 4.45 pm Monday to Thursday

7.45am to 2.15pm Friday
