Company presentation
We work to improve lives in Latin America and the Caribbean. Through financial and technical support for countries working to reduce poverty and inequality, we help improve health and education, and advance infrastructure. Our aim is to achieve development in a sustainable, climate-friendly way. With a history dating back to 1959, today we are the leading source of development financing for Latin America and the Caribbean. We provide loans, grants, and technical assistance; and we conduct extensive research. We maintain a strong commitment to achieving measurable results and the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability.
The Bank’s current focus areas include three development challenges – social inclusion and equality, productivity and innovation, and economic integration – and three cross-cutting issues – gender equality and diversity, climate change and environmental sustainability; and institutional capacity and the rule of law.

About this position
We are seeking an experienced senior internal controls expert to lead the implementation of Internal Controls over Sustainability Reporting (ICSR). This role will support climate-related disclosures in the financial statements and incorporate climate and sustainability considerations into the Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF).
You will work in Financial Controls and Operational Risk Management Group within the Office of Risk Management (RMG/ORM). This group is responsible for coordinating the activities related to the assessment of the Bank’s internal control system to support Management’s assertion on the effectiveness of its internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR). The group is also responsible for providing advice to Senior Management and the Board on corporate operational risks faced by the Bank. To enable this, the team works with the Bank’s various departments in the vice presidencies for finance, countries, and sectors, leveraging risk and control assessments, key and emerging risk research, control testing, and more to provide insight and recommendations on sound risk management.
What you’ll do
- Map IDB’s existing processes, systems, and tools for climate and sustainability data, and create a detailed ICSR implementation plan.
- Design and implement the ICSR program using the Bank’s ORMF and the COSO framework.
-
Conduct risk and control assessments (RCAs) to identify risks and ineffective internal controls, in climate and sustainability reporting and processes, and develop action plans as needed.
- Identify key controls for sustainability reporting, create and oversee a testing plan, and review deficiencies and action plans.
-
Ensure compliance with relevant sustainability reporting standards and internal guidelines.
- Develop and provide ICSR and operational risk training to promote best practices and policies.
- Monitor and report on the effectiveness of ICSR; maintain dashboards for tracking key elements like risks, controls, and deficiencies.
- Enter all relevant information into the Bank’s operational risk system.
-
Prepare and present reports to senior management and stakeholders.
-
Work independently with minimal oversight.
What you’ll need
-
Education: Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Environmental Science, or a related field. CIA, CPA, or other related certifications is strongly preferred.
-
Experience: A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in operational risk, ICFR/SOX compliance, internal audit, sustainability reporting, or a related field is required. -
Languages: Proficiency in English.
Requirements
