About the opportunity

The Senior Family Practitioner provides direct support to families during Keeping Connected intervention. This includes preparing carers / families for the transition, supporting the transition itself and maintaining intensive support for up to three months. In undertaking this work, Uniting has embedded the Connections Outcome Framework (COF) assessment tool to measure outcomes pre and post intervention.

As a Senior Family Practitioner, you will:

  • Provide intensive scoping and family finding options that are explored in partnership with Child Protection.
  • Provide education and practical support to families and sibling groups during the transition phase so that reunification can be achieved (where agreed to by Child Protection).
  • Provide education and practical support to families to enhance parenting capacity to strengthen the family unit and prevents re-entry into the out-of-home care system.

About you

To be successful in your application you will meet the person specification in the position description, including having a Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent tertiary qualification in a related discipline.

You will also have:

  • A minimum of 3 years professional experience in the field of child, youth and family services.
  • Experience working with DHHS Child Protection directly or in a community service setting would be beneficial.
  • Demonstrated ability as a practitioner and case manager in the child, youth and family welfare field.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with families and successfully providing outreach services, sometimes in a difficult or stressful context.
  • The ability to work flexible hours to meet the needs of children, young people and families.
  • A commitment to a family-centred approach and the family strengthening and empowerment models of practice.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of practices to engage and assure the cultural safety of clients from a diverse range of backgrounds, including those from an Aboriginal, Torres Strait islander or CALD background, or the LGBTI community.
