The Finance Division and School has an exciting opportunity to be part of an innovative team based in the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences School Office, to work alongside:

  • The Council of the School
  • The Head and Deputy of the School
  • Senior academics and professional staff across the Schools Institutions
  • Other School Office professorial staff

The Role

Working in the School FInance Team, the role will provide support to the School FInance Business Partner and their Deputy in adding a crucial layer of financial expertise to the University’s administration. They will provide support on strategic and operational financial matters and provide outstanding management information for the Schools stakeholders.

The Finance Division is implementing a Financial Transformation Project across the University; the role holder will manage a team of four staff working primarily out in Departments providing cover and resilience to support the implementation of the change management initiatives and its implementation across its Institutions.

The Senior Finance Adviser will prepare and manage detailed budgets and financial forecasts, manage and report on School wide projects and support the implementation of the Schools strategic vision within its Institutions, as well as working with professional staff in departments ensuring compliance with University financial procedures.

The post holder will be responsible for managing the financial operations of the School Office.

The appointee will be a key member of an outstanding existing team and will be integral in continuing to build and expand the excellent professional and supportive relationship this team has with those they work alongside.

Your Skills

The successful candidate will have:

  • A full professional accounting qualification.
  • Several years experience of working in a financial environment, probably within Higher Education or another complex organisation.
  • Strong influencing and analytical skills and be able to demonstrate excellent communication using tact and diplomacy.
  • The ability to work independently and proactively.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.

Location

The University is supportive of hybrid working, where some work is undertaken on University premises and some in a remote working environment. The aim of our approach is to enable as many staff as possible to work in a hybrid way if they wish and where their role allows.

The Finance Division has embraced hybrid working and individuals are currently working with their team two days a week from a University site, principally 17 Mill Lane, and three days worked remotely (for those working a standard Mon to Fri week). This arrangement is subject to change and will not form a part of the contractual terms of the role.
