Job Role
The purpose of the Senior Finance officer is to support the management of a strong internal control environment, including segregation of duties, and the application of finance policies, processes, and procedures.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Monitors all donor-funded financial transactions.
- Review all the daily financial transactions and the books of accounts (SAGE) to ensure they are appropriately recorded and coded.
- Reviews requests for payment for planned and approved projects on time; reviews supporting documents.
- Support in the monthly closure of accounts within required deadlines and guidelines.
- Ensures timely preparation and reconciliation of the WUSC management accounts.
- Ensures appropriate internal controls through adherence to the accounting systems and procedures.
- Collaborate and participate in procurement committee meetings including procurement processes.
- Ensures timely preparation and QA on monthly bank reconciliations.
- Ensures adherence and compliance with the approved donor budgets.
- Ensures that the related financial transactions comply with the donor requirements, country laws, donor policies, and procedures.
- Support in the preparation of annual, monthly, and quarterly BVAs as per financial requirements of the funding.
- Support budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash flow management for administration, existing programs, and new upcoming programs.
- Ensures timely transfer of funds to the sub-awardees in conjunction with the relevant project Finance analysts.
- Lead in organizing grant review meetings in collaboration with project managers and other stakeholders.
- Participate in pre-award surveys to verify the financial capability of all grantees before award.
- Support in the training, mentoring, and coaching of both the WUSC finance team and partner Finance teams where required.
- Support in delegating tasks and distributing team tasks to ensure a good balance of workload and quality delivery of work by the team.
- Collaborates with the Senior Operations Officer to ensure accurate, up-to-date asset register is maintained for all programs as per WUSC policy.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or any business-related field
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA K)
- A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in an accounting or finance role. Experience working in an NGO and tangible experience with implementing partners/ grantees is a mandatory requirement.
- Proficiency in accounting packages, Microsoft Suite, and SAGE
- Good analytical and management skills,
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- High level of honesty, integrity and confidentiality
