Job Description

AECOM has an opening for a Senior Geologist for our Portland, Oregon office to assist with a variety of projects including site investigations and remediation. The successful candidate will assist with gathering and analyzing geological data in both the field and office settings. The office activities will involve preparation of investigation reports and providing support/mentoring to junior to mid-level staff on projects. Will involve becoming an AECOM certified project manager responsible for managing remediation projects and environmental staff, supporting other project managers/program managers in the Remediation West Region.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Support a wide range of environmental investigation and remediation projects under CERCLA, RCRA, and Oregon/Washington jurisdictions.

  • Generally, requires multi-disciplinary knowledge.

  • Makes recommendations on work methods and procedures and technical innovations by devising practical and economical solutions to problems in own discipline.

  • Contribute directly to the preparation and review of technical project deliverables (e.g., work plans and remedial investigation reports

  • Job duties will involve both field work and office assignments with occasional overnight travel required.

  • Planning and organizing project studies.

  • Actively communicating with the technical and management teams.

  • Overseeing the work of less experienced scientists.

  • Being familiar with project invoicing and cash flow management.

  • Managing and directing professional and technical staff to complete complex environmental projects.

  • Interpreting and recording data, conducting analyses, comparing findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

  • Analyzing financial statements and completing budget tracking.

  • Performing complex assignments often requiring the development of unique solutions to problems with the support of the project team.

  • Supporting business development efforts.

  • Support growth of AECOM Portland, OR office.

  • Superior communication, writing, editing, and reporting skills for a wide variety of audiences.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • B.S. in geology, hydrogeology or equivalent field.

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in environmental remediation consulting industry (private or public) or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Valid Driver’s license.

  • US Citizen/Permanent Resident.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6 years of project management experience.

  • 10+ years’ experience in environmental remediation.

  • Oregon Registered Geologist license.

  • Master’s degree in Geology or related degree.

  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.

  • Employee is required to relocate to the Portland area.

  • Experience with regulator and stakeholder negotiations.

  • Experience successfully managing environmental projects for Federal/State clients.

  • Experience in team management and scheduling of staff and resources to ensure on time and on budget project delivery.

  • Experience preparing proposals, cost estimates, schedules, and change orders.

Additional Information

Compensation

Exempt Position: The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $80,000 – $110,000.
