We are recruiting a Senior Global Humanitarian Advisor to support our global humanitarian operations, with in specific focus on Francophone Africa, Libya, and Kenya. The role can be based in any country where DCA has a country programme. Applicants must have the right to live and work in that country.

Are you a visionary and dynamic individual with a solid knowledge and senior experience in the humanitarian field? Do you have a good understanding of the Humanitarian Aid architecture and its challenges as well as the nexus between humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding interventions?

Can you advise and mentor humanitarian colleagues, and when needed step into the management line and lead humanitarian programmes? Can you filter, translate, and communicate global ideas and programme frameworks, and connect them to DCA’s diverse country programme realities?

Then you might be the right candidate for the Senior Global Humanitarian Advisor within the Humanitarian Response & Mine Action Unit in DCA’s International Department.

The Role

The Senior Global Humanitarian Advisor provides on-the-ground and remote support for our humanitarian operations. Providing training and mentoring to DCA staff and partners on core humanitarian competencies- global humanitarian principles, sector standards, project and programme design and implementation. The post holder will also work closely with the fundraising team supporting, and when needed leading proposal development.

Travel requirement – Up to 50% of the year, for periods ranging from 1 to 6 weeks.

Required Competencies:

Essential

  • A minimum of 5 years of field-based humanitarian management experience, including experience in complex and volatile contexts.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and French are essentials.
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to adapt quickly, strong communication and diplomatic skills, with the ability to build relations both within and outside DCA.
  • Experience delivering humanitarian assistance in partnership with local actors.
  • A practitioner understanding of key humanitarian disciplines, so that you can lead assessments, programme design, implementation, and MEAL.
  • Proven skills in facilitating trainings and capacity strengthening of international and national actors.
  • Experience supporting programme development and strategy with country offices and partners, management experience is a strong advantage.
  • Strong leadership, team building and communication skills.

Desired

  • Technical experience in one of the following areas: emergency food security and livelihoods, cash-based methodologies, gender, accountability.
