The Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Protection Peak (QATSICPP) is the peak body representing, advocating, and supporting Queensland’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child protection and family support sector.

By sharing our collective knowledge and experience, we can all make a positive impact on policies and practices to stop the overrepresentation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in Queensland’s child protection and youth justice systems.

About the role

The Senior Human Resources Officer will lead the recruitment and retention initiatives of the organisation, lead the development, implementation and adaption of policies and procedures, develop a training and development program, and ensuring the continued development of employer of choice initiatives.

This is a dynamic hands-on role, which will require translating HR strategy into everyday operational practice. It is an opportunity to lead initiatives that cultivate a positive organisational culture valuing diversity, inclusion, and employee well-being.

The Senior HR Officer will have a proven understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, actively engaging with, and fostering strong connections to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Typical Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance and support to leaders and employers through effective communication, interpretation and application of HR policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and drive a proactive and efficient recruitment and onboarding process.
  • Initiate and oversee the implementation of a formalised training and development program across the organisation.
  • Review and update policy and practice to ensure HR compliance across the organisation.
  • Oversee employee relations and performance management processes alongside management.
  • Regular audit and risk management review including maintaining BlueCard portal, tracking performance reviews, and ensuring HR documents are up to date. Cultivate effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Desired skills, experience, and capabilities:

  • Ability to work in a culturally responsive manner in collaboration with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples while respecting our ways, our values, and our approaches.
  • Demonstrated experience with overseeing and implementing a variety of HR metrics.
  • In-depth knowledge of HR legal frameworks, OHS standards and best practice strategies to support staff development and retention.
  • A strong communicator with the skills to build relationships, influence decisions and negotiate effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and manage competing priorities.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain solid relationships.

Mandatory requirements:

  • To perform this role, it is essential that the person is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Antidiscrimination Act 1991 (QLD).
  • Tertiary qualifications in HR, Business or another relevant degree is highly desirable with a strong background in HR practice.
  • A current valid Queensland Working with Children’s Card (Blue Card) or eligible to apply.
  • Drivers Licence (preferable but not mandatory)
