Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the Senior Humanitarian Education Adviser (MHPSS) in the UK (London or Remote) or any existing Save the Children International Regional or Country office worldwide.

Role Purpose:

In the immediate aftermath of a disaster or conflict, and throughout the transition from emergency response to recovery and sustainable development, Save the Children’s presence in 120 countries facilitates the rapid delivery of evidence-based and innovative interventions that address the major life-saving and protection needs of the world’s most vulnerable populations. Save the Children’s Centre Humanitarian Technical Team (CHTT) provides technical quality support and strategic direction to programs in humanitarian settings and conducts research, capacity strengthening, and global representation to improve future responses. A key component of quality education in humanitarian contexts relates to integration of mental health and psychosocial support in order to ensure children’s protection and prioritization of wellbeing outcomes. More work is needed to support an integrated approach to MHPSS in Humanitarian Education, and this role will play a critical part in elevating SC’s holistic work with children in humanitarian contexts.

Specifically, this role will focus on supporting existing country, regional and global technical capacity to prepare for and deliver rapid integrated response for children in humanitarian contexts including a focus on holistic learning and wellbeing outcomes and play. A recently established Rapid Response Education Fund requires dedicated capacity at the global level to ensure our programming is of quality and results and impact are captured. This role is an exciting opportunity for a senior MHPSS and Education specialist with a passion for supporting programme colleagues and response teams deliver quality holistic education to support children’s wellbeing and learning in challenging contexts and making links between global processes and child-focused humanitarian action. The role will require strong coordination skills, linking Humanitarian Education colleagues, with MHPSS Regional TAs, and the MHPSS Global Lead.

The purpose of this role is to lead conceptualization and creation of technical approaches to deliver MHPSS through education programming and oversee technical quality of programme delivery. The role will also serve to ensure coordination and alignment across teams and functions, increase the profile and funding for MHPSS in education, and to support increased quality and impact of the sub-sector. Specifically, the post holder will be accountable for (1) Technical support to the Rapid Response Fund recipient countries and other priority humanitarian contexts; (2) Co-leadership of the MHPSS Technical Working Group (within CPGT/PQI) together with representatives from Child Protection and Health; (3) Support for proposal development, advocacy, and strategic engagement with donors and other key stakeholders as appropriate.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly. The role holder may be expected to deploy to rapid onset humanitarian crisis as a senior technical lead to design and roll-out high-priority responses, as needed. The role will also serve as a movement-wide technical backstop for high priority responses.

The position will be part of the Centre Humanitarian Technical Team (CHTT) of the Centre Humanitarian Team, but the scope of this role may evolve to work with additional sector teams in the future.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • Significant years of experience in MHPSS and Education in humanitarian settings
  • Experience of capacity building, coaching and training development in MHPSS
  • Experience integrating MHPSS within Education
  • Strong people and communication skills, politically and culturally sensitive, diplomatic and assertive as needed.
  • A high level of written and spoken English.

Desirable:

  • Experience with developing virtual learning solutions
  • Experience of working with and supporting local and national partners
  • Additional languages, particularly French, Spanish and/or Arabic.
  • Masters Degree in Education or Mental Health related field, psychology, psychiatry

We can offer circa £50,000 per annum (If based in the UK) with an option of flexible working hours. If the role is based outside of the UK, National Terms & Conditions (including pay and benefits) will apply.

This role can be based in the UK (London or Remote) or any existing Save the Children International Regional or Country office location on approval, provided the successful candidate has proof of eligibility to work from the preferred location for the duration of the contract.
