Location: Hybrid between home and the London office 
Salary Range: £45,034 to £48,055 (plus London Weighting, £3,344, if applicable) per annum
Hours per week: 35
12 months Fixed Term Contract

Could you play a leading role in developing our international humanitarian policy with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent movements? Can you work collaboratively with colleagues in different departments to ensure the development and implementation of policy agendas that inform our mission?

A day in the life of a Senior Humanitarian Policy Adviser

Your primary goal in this role will be to lead in the development of a strategic policy offer and technical advice across thematic work areas. You’ll influence objectives and action strategy on international migration and displacement. You’ll leverage the movement’s operational experience and advisory capacity to achieve your aims.

You’ll direct on analysis, planning and implementation of action and work plans (including working with regional teams and National Society partners). You’ll oversee the collection and analysis of evidence to demonstrate the effectiveness and impact of our directorate’s work. Your assessment and interpretation of data will support you to make evidence-based recommendations.

You’ll work in an open and collaborative way with partners across the movement. The partnerships you foster will improve results and maximise impact. Thus, facilitating more effective delivery of our goals and objectives.

You’ll define quality standards and ensure compliance through the provision of timely and effective advice.
To be a successful Senior Humanitarian Policy Adviser, you’ll need:
  • Advanced knowledge of humanitarian policy within the international humanitarian or development systems. With technical expertise within humanitarian policy development and influencing.
  • Extensive experience of providing humanitarian policy advice and support.
  • Project management experience. Ability to work with various stakeholders to influence outcomes and achieve results.
  • Experience of stakeholder coordination and partnership working across multiple teams (many of which will be remote and / or international). You are assured when supporting others, seeking solutions to problems, and managing multiple tasks.
  • Advanced ability to analyse both quantitative and qualitative data and interpret information to communicate to and persuade decision makers / different audiences, both written and verbal.
  • Proven track record of establishing relationships with senior decision-makers to influence and enable decision making.
  • Experience of undertaking humanitarian policy development within a relevant role, sector, project or programme.
