POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Senior Institutional Giving Officer will play a key role in
implementing the strategic development plan to increase foundation,
corporate, and government revenue. This role will manage and
supervise the daily operations of the grant and corporate giving
programs, including project management, relationship management,
and cultivation, continually researching funding opportunities, and
maintaining up-to-date and accurate records for funders and the
organization. The Senior Institutional Giving Officer must be
a collaborative and entrepreneurial leader who can support the
fundraising team through a uniquely challenging time. This role
will report to the Director of Development and work closely with
the Chief Strategy & Growth Officer.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND
RESPONSIBILITIES
INSTITUTIONAL GIVING:
- Manage, grow, and optimize a robust foundation and government
giving program, collaborating closely with the Director of
Development, Grant Writer, and Advancement Coordinator to implement
critical cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
strategies. - Significantly increase philanthropic support from local,
regional, and national institutions by personally building and
managing a corporate, foundation, and government portfolio. - Meet revenue goals for the institutional giving program as set
by the Director of Development. - Oversee developing and submitting compelling letters of
inquiry, proposals, and grant applications. - In partnership with the Grant Writer, build relationships with
regional and national institutional partners and proactively
identify new projects and partners in collaboration with AoH
leadership teams. - Secure philanthropic support at the five and six-figure
levels. - Identify and attend events sponsored by existing or new
institutional partners to build relationships and increase AoH’s
visibility. - Assist the Director of Development in implementing a
comprehensive and cohesive development plan, contributing to annual
and long-range strategies to support sustainability and growth
across all funding areas in service of AoH’s mission, vision, and
values.
CORPORATE GIVING:
- Create systems, processes, and policies for the corporate
giving program to build AoH’s revenue and expand our
visibility. - Steward existing corporate partners and identify and cultivate
new corporate sources of funding. - Prepare and present personalized corporate
partnership/sponsorship packages to existing and prospective
corporate partners. - Write corporate sponsorship proposals as needed.
- Working with our Advancement Coordinator and key internal
stakeholders, create a portfolio of corporate employee engagement
opportunities that align with AoH’s mission and strategic goals,
including the strategy and marketing materials for these engagement
opportunities. - Ensure consistent, compelling communications with corporate
partners.
DEVELOPMENT OPERATIONS:
- Provide monthly reports to the Director of Development on
institutional giving progress against goals. - In partnership with the Director of Development, update
policies, processes, and procedures for institutional giving and
other policies as assigned. - Effectively oversee the involvement of the CEO, Chief Strategy
& Growth Officer, and other senior staff with institutional
giving engagement, including strategic briefings before visits and
arranging for appropriate follow-up from visits.
GRANT MANAGEMENT:
- Track all deadlines in AoH’s CRM for corporate and foundation
deliverables (reports, proposals, etc.), and support the Director
of Development and grant writer to deliver grant proposals and
reports for corporate and foundation funders. - Manage and maintain the donor database with grant proposal
information and key documents. Ensure the Grants are current in CRM
and provide regular reporting to AoH leadership on grants
metrics. - Work closely and meet regularly with Program Managers,
Performance Evaluation & Research, and Finance teams to develop
and monitor grant goals and project budgets that meet the
requirements of each project and/or funding opportunity. - Work with the Director of Development and Finance team, help
with budget development, monitor institutional giving activities,
and produce internal and external reports regarding projected and
achieved goals. - Assist with setting annual and multi-year goals for foundation
and corporate relations and events in consultation with the Chief
Strategy & Growth Officer and departmental leadership
team.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree and/or at least five years of experience and
measurable success in institutional giving, including setting and
meeting goals. - Demonstrated experience in designing and managing successful
corporate giving programs. - Successful track record of personally identifying, cultivating,
and soliciting significant contributions from corporations and
foundations.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND
ABILITIES:
- The ability to write grant proposals is required.
- Strong interpersonal skills to identify, cultivate, and solicit
significant contributions. - Strong analytical skills and ability to leverage fundraising
data as a tool (familiarity with SalesforceCRM or similar CRM is
preferred but not required). - Clear and effective verbal and written communication with
various staff, prospects, donors, vendors, and other
stakeholders. - Highly motivated, goal-oriented, entrepreneurial self-starter
who is a strategic and creative thinker who can work independently
and, in a team, setting. - Ability to articulate the case for support and to interact with
institutional giving partners and prospects at the highest
level. - Highly professional and ethical standards for handling
confidential or sensitive information, including knowledge of
nonprofit best practices. - Understanding Washington, DC, and its philanthropic community
is a plus. - Understanding adult education, workforce development, and
charter sector landscapes is a plus. - High energy and passion for AOH’s mission is essential.

working a hybrid model, telework and on-site. Schedule will be
determined by Senior Leadership Team.
