This is an exciting opportunity to manage and lead the work of NRC’s partnership team and humanitarian financing portfolio in Geneva. You will be responsible for strategic leadership, team management, and hands-on implementation of our Humanitarian Financing policy activities, all in  close coordination with colleagues in NRC Geneva, other parts of the Policy and Partnership (PnP) Department, and across various teams in Oslo Head Office.

What we are looking for:

NRC is seeking a highly qualified “Senior Institutional Partnership Adviser” with advanced knowledge and expertise of the humanitarian system, funding mechanisms, and humanitarian policy work.

What you will do:

Some of your specific responsibilities include:

  • Developing and leading NRC’s strategic relationships with UN agencies and Swiss partners, including the development of strategic approaches and the administration of current and future partnerships, MOUs and/or grant agreements.
  • Managing the work of the Institutional Partnership team in Geneva and ensuring supervisory capacity throughout the performance management cycle. This includes undertaking development responsibility for the team’s priorities and workplan, in line with the office’s objectives.
  • Representing NRC in partnership discussions with UN agencies and other donors, and at inter-agency and NGO forums relevant to the partner/donor portfolio; and ensuring the collection of cross-departmental input into relevant discussions and initiatives.
  • Overseeing the internal help-desk function for capacity building and compliance by managing the partnership team’s support for day-to-day administration of grant agreements:
  • Overseeing the development and updating of NRC donor pages that collect and organise partner/donor guidelines, tools, etc., and other materials, such as funding overviews and summaries of rules and regulations.
  • Responding to enquiries (from NRC HO and COs) related to partner/donor funding priorities, procedures, rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Overseeing the development of the capacity-building strategy and the delivery of capacity-building training on partner/donor requirements.
  • Staying updated on partner policy development and leading advocacy efforts for higher quality financing conditions with relevant actors; includes keeping NRC departments and COs/ROs informed of developments.
  • Ensuring leadership on financing policy initiatives related to quality funding, NGO-led financing mechanisms, and non-traditional contributors, ensuring strategic liaison and engagement of relevant NRC counterparts.
  • Any other tasks and responsibilities as required by the Director of Humanitarian Policy and Representative Office in Geneva.

What you will bring:

  • Relevant master’s degree or equivalent qualifications/experience.
  • Strong communication skills and fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Advanced knowledge and expertise of the humanitarian system, funding mechanisms, and humanitarian policy work.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience from a humanitarian organisation and/or donor administration, either at head office/capital or field/embassy level.
  • Professional experience with institutional donors.
  • Professional experience on humanitarian policy issues.
  • Ability to think strategically and translate this into plans for action and results.
  • Ability to lead a team and set priorities in line with the office’s and the organisation’s objectives.
  • Representation skills and experience.
  • Strong networking and negotiation skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work autonomously and meet tight deadlines.

  • Duty station: NRC Geneva – Switzerland.
  • Contract: National Temporary (6 Months Maternity Cover).
  • Salary/benefits: Grade 9 on NRC’s regional salary scale, with accompanying terms and conditions.
