Do work that makes a difference

More action is needed to reduce emissions and manage climate change. At the SEC, we are building an enterprising and dynamic team to accelerate Victoria’s transition to renewables and help achieve Victoria’s renewable energy target of 95% by 2035.

The SEC is a state-owned company that will help shape a more reliable and affordable renewable energy future for all Victorians.

Your role

As a Senior Investment Analyst at the SEC, you will be responsible for supporting the full deal process to identify, assess and bring forward investment decisions for renewable energy and storage projects.

This role can be based in either our Melbourne CBD office or our regional office located in Morwell. This role is the equivalent of a VPS STS 7.

What you will do:

  • Assist in Identifying investment opportunities in line with SEC’s strategy and desired portfolio, considering market trends, technological developments and broader system and public benefits.
  • Work closely with the Energy Markets Analytics team to guide market scanning to align the direction of the investment team and the trading team’s portfolio.
  • Conduct research to gather data on energy market trends, technology developments, competitor activities, regulatory changes and relevant public purpose benefits to inform the selection and assessment of potential asset development opportunities.
  • Work with relevant advisors to conduct due diligence on prospective investments by assessing technical, legal, commercial, environmental, and social feasibility/performance of projects.
  • Develop and run financial models to understand different investment scenarios.
  • Prepare investment recommendation reports for senior management, the investment committee and other stakeholders to provide clear and well-supported recommendations on specific energy projects.
  • Monitor the construction and operations of invested assets to ensure optimal performance across the full range of SEC objectives.

Who you are:

Your capabilities and areas of expertise that matter most for this role are:

  • Expert experience in energy infrastructure investments, preferably from an investment or private asset management background.
  • An understanding of the potential risks associated with development, delivery and operation of energy assets in the Australian market.
  • Able to build and manipulate energy asset financial models based on discounted cash flows.
  • Strong commercial mindset with experience conducting and working with due diligence processes.
  • Good understanding of the Australian energy landscape.
  • An appreciation of Victorian Government policy targets, initiatives, and goals.

Our empowered workforce

A career with us means you’ll be joining a new and vibrant ‘for purpose’ government-owned renewable energy company that:

Empowers you to influence how we accelerate Victoria’s renewable energy transition and decarbonise our economy.

  • Inspires you through meaningful, challenging work in an environment that encourages leadership and an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Supports your growth through career advancement and professional development opportunities.
  • Provides hybrid work arrangements, with around 3 days working in Melbourne or Morwell, with flexible work options to meet individual circumstances, providing greater choice and autonomy.

About us

We have an exciting and ambitious road ahead with a focus on:

  • Investing in renewable energy and storage projects that accelerate the transition and deliver commercial returns.
  • Supporting households to go all electric to reduce their emissions and energy bills.
  • Building the renewable energy workforce our energy transition requires.

We’re partnering with industry to transform the energy sector, opening the state up for further innovation and investments in renewables. This includes an initial $1 billion towards delivering 4.5 gigawatts of power through renewable energy and storage projects – the equivalent replacement capacity of coal-fired power station Loy Yang A, which is set to close in 2035.

We will also play an important role in helping Victorian households to reduce their energy bills and emissions by offering simple and effective solutions to help them switch to electric.

The energy transformation will create thousands of jobs. The SEC will play a role in attracting and training our future renewable energy workforce, including through the SEC Centre of Training Excellence.
