Core Responsibilities:

  • Managing the Group’s existing portfolio of energy contracts to support timely renewal and or termination negotiations.
  • Advising on contentious matters or litigation relating to the Group’s existing energy portfolio, with the assistance of external counsel where required.
  • Advising, and providing training, on key regulatory and legislative developments in the energy and utilities sectors where of potential relevance to the Group’s energy portfolio and energy projects.
  • Working closely with the Group Energy procurement team to advise on, and negotiate:

– Major energy supply and service agreements.
– Physical supply contracts.
– Commodity hedging arrangements.
– Energy CAPEX contracts and related supply agreements.
– Energy subsidies (with an understanding of related EU legislation).
– Energy sale agreements.
– Carbon reduction agreements.
– Agreements related to GOs and PPAs.Net Zero CAPEX Projects:

  • Supporting major CAPEX projects, specifically any such Energy focussed projects.
  • Advising project teams on legal issues throughout the life of such projects
  • Working closely with the Energy and CAPEX teams to assess potential future decarbonisation opportunities.
  • Managing external counsel to ensure appropriate and cost-effective legal support is provided where required.
  • Advising on key development, construction, commercial, service and supply agreements in conjunction with external counsel.

Key Experiences & Attributes:

  • 5+ years’ PQE with in-depth experience of working on a range of energy related legal matters and a good understanding of key legislation and regulation governing the energy and utilities sector.
  • In-house experience beneficial but not essential.
  • Good commercial judgement and the willingness to use it.
  • Intellectually sound with a strong, analytical mind.
  • Hard-working, task and action-oriented.
  • Team player.
  • Grounded, collaborative and comfortable engaging at every level of an organisation.
  • High degree of energy and commitment, an ability and willingness to travel and to deliver to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a lean and fast paced operational environment.
